Fort Pierre

Fort Pierre may mean:

  • One of two trading post forts with this name that were located in what is now South Dakota:
    • Fort Pierre (1831-1857), originally named Fort Pierre Chouteau or Fort Chouteau, then renamed Fort Pierre in 1833. The fort was purchased by the U.S. Army in 1855 and renamed Fort Bennett. The site is located within Fort Chouteau Park in the city of Fort Pierre.
    • Fort Pierre (1859-1863), later renamed New Fort Pierre. The site was located 3½ miles north of the site of the original Fort Pierre.
