History[edit]

The History section is practically non-existent now. The review of the troops has a 2,500-year history, the Scythians did it, the Huns did it, I believe Illiad had it, etc. The modern pageantry has very deep roots. Use of parades for intimidation, as a cover for mobilization, modern parades with fake weaponry, parading troops before assault on civilians and students, parades to assert a new world order, like after defeat of Napoleon, parades for census taking, parades in ethnic strife, use of parades for political killings, etc Barefact (talk) 18:49, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Malay drill commands[edit]

Really, why? Why do we specifically have Malayan drill commands here, but not every other language? I think the article really needs a clean up. Wikipedia is not a drill manual, I think that it should go over only the very basics of what drill is like and about, then at the bottom we can link to all the different drill manuals.

The article also needs pictures to explain what the commands do.

More than that, it is duplicated at Drill commands.--Reedmalloy (talk) 14:30, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Time Immemorial?[edit]

Military formations have been used since time immemorial? that is so vague as to be almost meaningless. Mention the history of military formations or don't. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 35.20.83.142 (talk) 18:27, 16 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Should we add more countries to the list?[edit]

Just asking, should we mention more nations about their military parade, for example, especially North Korea? North Korea's parades are quite notable to be mentioned as well, not to forget China probably.---ZKang123 (talk) 11:05, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested split of section Military marching commands[edit]

I say we just take the entire section and lift it into its separate article. It takes up a third of the article and it really is more about general marching than specifically parades, plus its level of detail really warrants its own page. Gaioa (T C L) 18:53, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I support this suggestion 100 percent. AyodeleA1 (talk) 01:02, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, no one has raised an objection for one week, so I'll go ahead and split it now. I'm marking the target for maintenance deletion. Gaioa (T C L) 07:51, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Broken redirect[edit]

Stand at ease redirects to this article, but the relevant section was deleted a few years ago. ZFT (talk) 01:17, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Style issues[edit]

For a relatively long article, there's extremely few sources on much of it. The history section is also written a little colloquially, with numerous claims casually made and not cited, which feels like original research.

A good chunk of the subsections have no references at all. This article needs a lot of work to fix. toobigtokale (talk) 00:33, 2 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
