Ack! Duplication, standardation[edit]

Look at the article and you'll see we have a problem! There is no standardation for the naming of the sub-categories. You'll see we have a 1997 computer and video games and a Computer and video games 1997. We need to decide which format we want to use and get rid of the duplicates (can this be done just by changing the categories of the other groups?). Personally I prefer the former (i.e. 1997 computer and video games) because it sounds better than the latter. Is someone already working on this? "[Year] computer and video games" is the peoper naming convention; the incorrectly named categories are empty and should be listed for deletion. -Sean Curtin 19:27, 12 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Too many year categories per article[edit]

Some games have multiple years (as many as 4!!) attached. Isn't this overdoing it a bit? --ssd 06:08, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I'd say most should be limited to (if applicable) the arcade release date and the main home release date (if it was released on three platforms, for instance, with one coming out in 1994 and the other two in 1995, I'd say a 1995 date is more appropriate). I could see a third release date if a new version is released with substantial improvements a couple years after the previous release, as well. Combining arcade chronology?[edit]

Should arcade games be added to the main year subcategories? I've noticed a number of games listed under "[year] arcade games", yet not under "[year] computer and video games" (although the arcade sub-category itself is listed there). Sometimes a game will be in both lists, sometimes only in one. One of these should be the standard, but which? -Jacquismo 03:44, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

After some thought, I'm thinking that games in "[year-x] arcade games" should not be in "[year-x] computer and video games", so those that are in both (barring a home release of the game in the same year) should likely be removed from the latter list. Jacquismo 20:20, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

what about year of cancellation[edit]

For online video games whose company closed the severs for them (making them unplayable past that point) do we have categories for this? For example with Forsaken World at https://www.arcgames.com/en/games/forsaken-world/news/detail/11515393-shutting-down-our-servers shutting down in November. This directory is difficult to use without any subcategorization[edit]

A directory so broad doesn't much help the user to find what they're looking for. It instead ends up creating more work for whoever's trying to use it, rather than helping them to actually find what they're looking for. Imo, this directory should be reformatted to make it more useful. I'd do it myself, but I'm not a regular contributor and it probably wouldn't stick. I'd suggest a directory which sorts titles by genre and platform, as well as by year. Which way the directory should be ordered is debatable though. YEAR>PLATFORM>GENRE or PLATFORM>YEAR>GENRE or GENRE>PLATFORM>YEAR could all work well, but idk which is preferable.
