Should this page not have a "List of" title, like "List of scholastic philosophers"? --AW

This page now appears to consist only of a list of scholastic philosophers. Perhaps it should be moved to "List of scholastic philosophers." Michael Hardy 19:39 Mar 21, 2003 (UTC)

I agree. Although, if someone were to write it, an article at Scholastic philosophy explaining what it is would be useful. For now a move seems best. -- sannse 19:44 Mar 21, 2003 (UTC)

Peter the Archbishop[edit]

Who is Peter the Archbishop? The name has been on this list for years. But it seems unclear who is intended. Charles Matthews (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 09:55, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In what sense can the following be said to be scholastics? Some of them are not even in the right time period: Bede, Dante Alighieri, Gottschalk, Hildegard of Bingen, Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite. Should they be on the list? Xxanthippe (talk) 10:56, 11 May 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Having originally created this page, I am now wondering whether it shouldn't be renamed something like "Medieval European writers". Of alternatively be incorporated in the more systematic sets of pages with lists of philosophers of various periods. Article title[edit]

I started this list some years ago and this is (apparently) my 494th addition! I think the title should now be generalised to something like 'Medieval European writers' BevRowe (talk) 16:45, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The whole article[edit]

When I started this article I called it Medieval Philosophers. I was quite rightly corrected because I confined it to Europe. So we agreed on the calling it Scholastic philosophers. I now regret that we didn't stick to the original name but include the Islamic philosophers in the same list. There is a list of Islamic philosophers but it is nowhere near as useful. However, combining them now would be a tremendous undertaking. Maybe someone would undertake it?! BevRowe (talk) 18:33, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is a reply to myself!
I became less and less convinced that 'phlosohers' is a very apt term.I am therefore changing the name of this article to 'Medieval European writers'.If there is a lot of objections we can always change it back. BevRowe (talk) 22:50, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
"Medieval European scholars" seems awfully broad. Srnec (talk) 00:50, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
