I moved the extended quote over to Wikisource, and removed the tag requesting it. The new quote can be found on Wikisource under the name "Ken Saro-Wiwa." Thank you to the Wikipedian who posted the quote; it was a nice addition to an ever-expanding Wikisource project! Yale2010 23:30, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Labor?[edit]

I don't see the logic of having the "Organised Labour" box in the article.

Writing?[edit]

Since Saro-Wiwa was an author shouldn't this page include a list of his works? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.232.250.50 (talk) 16:17, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Missing Book?[edit]

Saro-Wiwa's book "Genocide in Nigeria: The Ogoni Tragedy" is not mentioned on this page. (Or perhaps this is the same book as one of the mentioned titles under a different name?)

Is there an image of him somewhere that we can use here? Kingturtle (talk) 21:02, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

biased?[edit]

i feel that perhaps this article is written in a slightly biased way. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mmmfood (talkcontribs) 16:27, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I completely agree - it's like it was written by the Mumia Fan Club. TheGoodLocust (talk) 07:09, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
With respect to the dispute Saro-Wiwa had with Shell, it only quotes political activist web-sites and therefore only provides a unilateral view of the issue. Sites like these are not a reliable source for citations. It would be more useful to quote newspaper articles or other fact-checked publications. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.37.249.36 (talk) 18:03, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Because we all know main-stream media reports only the truth. Right? — Preceding unsigned comment added by D.Refaeli (talkcontribs) 20:45, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No mention of what Saro-Wiwa was actually tried for (allegedly ordering 2,000 of his followers to kill moderate Ogoni leaders who had broken with Saro-Wiwa). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.103.223.221 (talk) 12:42, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In popular Culture and media - listing of works inspired by Saro-Wiwa[edit]

Gobonobo removed the listing to the 8 or so songs, books and other works that referenced Ken Saro-Wiwa with the explanation that "let's only include sourced and notable content here befitting a biography - don't need a list of every song that's ever mentoned him". I disagree, if Martin Luther King's article can list 13 movies that portray King, and if the Malcolm X article can list all the movies and plays that he was portrayed in, why can't we list works that mention or were inspired by Ken Saro-Wiwa. His life inspired art and I for one became more aware of his life and work because of the art that was inspired by his life. Songs inspired by Ken Saro-Wiwa's life are befitting a biography. I have no songs written about me because my life hasn't inspired such socially conscious art...and so my non-existent biography does not have such content. For this reason I am respectfully undoing Gobonobo's edit. I accept that this section needs editing for sourcing and if it does then please limit such editing to sourcing not wholesale removal.--Tomislavsvoboda (talk) 22:48, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tomislavsvoboda. I actually retained the references to the books that were in that section. I think WP:IPCEXAMPLES has a good rundown of what kind of "in popular culture" content is appropriate for Wikipedia. The majority of the content that I removed was completely unsourced or poorly sourced. While you added a source for King Cobb Steelie's song (thank you for that), it was a link to a lyrics page which doesn't really demonstrate the notability or significance of the song in relation to Saro-Wiwa. If you can provide a reference that does that, I'd be happy to work with you and figure out a compromise, but restoring the section to its previous state is not a solution. I note that Junior Relaxer already has an explanation of the song and its relevance which is completely appropriate for that article. Gobōnobo + c 02:40, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
