Article title[edit]

I have renamed this article as Zechariah (Hebrew prophet) (originally Zechariah). The shorter alternative Zechariah (prophet) could be ambiguous, as a later individual, Zechariah (priest), is considered a prophet in Islam. Fayenatic london 19:09, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Italics, when referring to the Book of Zechariah[edit]

Use italics in places where Zechariah is used to refer to the biblical book, otherwise use (ironically) roman text; this helps to distinguish between the two.

Chapter 2?[edit]

I'm getting confused! Chapter 2 of Zechariah has the prophet in the first person narrative (verses 1-7a), but then the narrative switches from the "me" to the "him". I don't know if both of them refer to Zechariah or not, but the next verse (8) has the angel saying, "Tell this to that young man", which, according to the footnote in the NAB, is either an angel or a man with a measuring cord of verse 5! In Islam[edit]

The Hadith (Book 030, Number 5863) gives no indication that this prophet is the same Zakariyya as was identified there as a carpenter. Unless someone can cite a connection from WP:RS, I propose to remove it from the article. – Fayenatic (talk) 12:58, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A Georgian edit warring over EL[edit]

What is not clear is why the phrase, "not to be confused with the New Testament prophet" which disambiguated one Zechariah from another was removed. I asked for an explanation and so far have not received one. It is WP to explain an edit. The statement is nonsense without it. It is bad enough to break the article making a tendentious point, it is worse to not even know what you are doing and even worse yet to edit war over it. And the icing - even worse yet - is your note that doesn't ask a single question nor acknowledge that other editors may have valid and different points of view, much less that you might be incorrect. After I gave you an edit war warning and took time out of my day to show you your mistake, you finally understood it. WP:COMPETENCE is required. Having the self-insight to ask a question is useful. His Father[edit]

Someone inserted randomly and out of rhythm this paragraph:

"According to 2 Chronicles 24:20, Jehoiada the priest is his father: Then the Spirit of God came on Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood before the people and said, “This is what God says: ‘Why do you disobey the Lord’s commands? You will not prosper. Because you have forsaken the Lord, he has forsaken you.’ ”"

Two articles - Priest and Prophet?[edit]

Why do we have two articles on Zechariah? Prophet and priest — are they different? Is there any way to make this clearer from the article context for someone who may not be an expert on the topic? And maybe a hatnote? Seraphim System ^(talk) 12:04, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
