Hello, anybody here? Happy summer holiday for Finnish ice hockey fans!

Let's get the page up for the season 2004-2005! Are there suggestions for the content? I propose the plan (and will construct this entry according to this unless somebody mingles):

Definition and key people
Participants (the 13 clubs and past)
Format of competition (explain the regular series and the play-offs)
Winners (gold, silver, bronze since 1975-1976)
Awards (personal awards, all-stars lines)
Records
History and international standing
1. Why was SM-liiga constituted?
2. How was SM-liiga constituted?
3. Developments after 1975
4. Current standing as a European professional ice hockey league
External links (only the really relevant sites, which are few - exclude club related sites)

Agreeing on a plan like this would make the rest of the job easy: as research for other sections than history will be mostly trivial, typing the data could be made without interfering other work.

At the moment I consider postponing section records until rest of the article is finished. It is also debatable which records deserve inclusion. History will be the most difficult - a good source will be hard to find, and redundancy with other sections must be avoided.

The current standing bit will be difficult, probably controversial and hopefully rewarding to write. Such issues should be discussed as competition over players against other European and North American professional leagues. Sounds ambitious, I think!

No objections? I have now written most of what I planned. The only things for me to do are:

I suspect my view of SM-liiga's international standing will be challenged, sooner or later. But if nobody mingles for now, ...

The name of SM-liiga[edit]

Tyhjiö (in an edit summary): "Corrected first paragraph: the complete and sole name is 'SM-liiga', other names should never be used"

I'm not saying you are wrong (you are probably right), but if "SM-liiga" is the complete and sole name and the only one that should be used, why does the official website say "Jääkiekon SM-liiga" in several places (like the page titles)? Also, obviously the name "SM-liiga" comes from the fact that it is a "jääkiekon suomenmestaruusliiga", but that may not be important for the article.

The most literal translation for "suomenmestaruus" would be "championship of Finland", but I guess "Finnish championship" is better English.

I did some mining for information and found that registered name of the association that controls SM-liiga is "Jääkiekon SM-liiga R.Y.". It still leaves open what the name of the competition exactly is. The logo has the words "SM" and "liiga" only.

As I see it, it is open for debate whether the correct name is "Jääkiekon SM-liiga" or "SM-liiga". There are competitions in other sports that are at least called SM-liiga. It could be that a disambiguation is needed when entries for these SM-liigas turn up.

However, what I meant to say is that even though SM does stand for suomenmestaruus, the only official form is SM-liiga. Every other form or spelling is unofficial: the acronym is always kept like that. This is what I edited the article to correspond, even though I left the explanation of SM intact.

I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

The "most championships" part should be changed to TPS, because Ilves has won only one SM-liiga championship, but 15 in SM-sarja. TPS has won 9 SM-liiga championships. SM-sarja championships should not be counted.
