Welcome:)[edit]

Sir or Madam,

I would like to welcome you to Wikipedia on behalf of the entire community. Rarely do we see a new user contribute such an excellent article as his or her first submission! It is truly a pleasure to have you here, and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me. If I cannot answer your question, I will attempt to direct you to someone who can. Furthermore, many users are glad to offer needed assistance. Anyway, congratulations on such a well-written article!Zantastik 08:50, 9 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Can you clarify something?

None of the original seals themselves have been found, but about 2,000 specimens of 21 stamp types have been published (photos of more than 600 of them are viewable on the LMLK Research website).

I think you can view impressions of the actual seals, but you don't mention it. Can you clarify this sentence? Mgm|(talk) 17:22, Feb 6, 2005 (UTC)

  • Yes, that was the proper way to respond to me. :) Don't forget to sign posts on talk page using four tildes like this ~~~~ which will expand to your username and a time stamp. Feel free to ask help if you need it. Mgm|(talk) 18:32, Feb 7, 2005 (UTC)

Excellent job... though I have a question as well: How do the drawing styles suggest different artists? 68.81.231.127 14:29, 8 Feb 2005 (UTC)

That makes sense, and would make a good addition to the article. 68.81.231.127 00:29, 9 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Wikification[edit]

Hi there. Thanks for taking time to edit the Grand Canyon page. I just wanted to point out that when wikilinks are put into an article, usually only the first occurrence of the link is wikified. The remainder are left unlinked. It's just a style thing. An exception is where one wants to link to a specific portion of an article rather the the article per se. You can have as many of those as necessary (so long, as before, that there's only one to each portion of the same article). Otherwise, keep up the good work. Cheers, --Plumbago 09:53, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your feedback. I thought about that because it seemed strange there was only one link to the Colorado River. Personally, I like having as many links as possible because you never know when someone might feel like clicking on it. But if that's the Wikipedia policy, or the style you prefer on that page, that's certainly fine with me.--Funhistory 16:04, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've not seen it written down in the style rules (though I've not exactly looked hard), but I've seen it referred to in talk pages, and it's certainly abided by in articles. I do agree about having lots of links though, so please keep adding them as appropriate. And if you find that the WP's missing an article, by all means add a "link" to it. Hopefully that'll attract the attention of another user who's happy to supply the missing article. Cheers, --Plumbago 16:55, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Your method is indeed a recommended guideline (Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Wiki-Linking), so thanks again for bringing it to my attention.--Funhistory 21:51, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hebron[edit]

Hi, I saw your note on the LMLK seal on the Hebron talk page. It would be great if you could put something on your seals in there. The article as it stands doesn't have much flavor for the ancient. elizmr 03:17, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comments; however, Hebron is a highly volatile page (reflective of the actual city today), & it's impossible to keep anything substantive on it (especially anything that might suggest Jews owned the land before modern Palestinians). As long as the link to LMLK seals remains in the See Also section, I'm satisfied. Intelligent people will be able to form their own opinions, & the people who vandalize the page & the city can continue to live in their own fantasy world.--Funhistory 16:29, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think that there is a lot of emotion on that page. One really sad thing about it, however, it is doesn't give a flavor of Hebron as an ancient city at all (although there is a pretty dry history section). One only comes away with the modern politics. Maybe I'll give it a shot and see what happens, if that is ok with you. elizmr 20:22, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's certainly OK with me! I like reading material from other people's perspectives. The more, the merrier!--Funhistory 23:52, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I did it. You might want to check to make sure I didn't misrepresent the facts. elizmr 02:10, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Quidam[edit]

Funhistory, I would like to applaud your continued editing and improvement of the Quidam pages (if only we had an editor of your calibre for Alegría!). Regarding the 'pre-show mayhem' ("Show Notes" subsection of the Trivia section), in Sydney 2004 John tuned the radio to play some bars of music from Alegría and Saltimbanco, which had toured Australia in 2001 and 1999 respectively. (During Francesca Gagnon's singing, John mimed gagging at the soppy tune!) Do you think this tongue-in-cheek reference to previous touring shows is standard? HueyCobra 04:27, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I'm gonna copy your message & respond to it on the Quidam Discussion page.--Funhistory 22:41, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Images[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Full-circle-vhs-pal-uk-carton.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. ... 20:06, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

I know--that was an oversight on my part. I wanted to delete it, but didn't know how, so I changed the original file name (Image:Full-circle-vhs-pal-carton.jpg) & re-uploaded it with the videotape cover Fair Use tag.--Funhistory 20:12, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Watermarking in images[edit]

The section about watermarks is here, in the last paragraph. All information that would otherwise be contained in a watermark on the image should instead be placed in the description and summary boxes on the image description page. If you have any questions, please let me know. Cumulus Clouds (talk) 15:35, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I did 2 of them, & will do the other one (the Zayit Stone inscription), which I was planning to revise a small portion of anyway, sometime during the next month. If you feel its deletion is urgent, please feel free to do so, but just be aware that I'm planning to fix it & re-upload a new, corrected version without the watermarks sometime soon. By the way, when you deleted the Quidam page's Music section, you removed the wiki-link to the Quidam CD page. I don't understand why you deleted so much content from the CD page, instead of just deleting it in its entirety now that you've replaced it with a redirect link. What's the purpose of that?--Funhistory (talk) 03:47, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Note--I just replaced the Image:Zayit-stone-inscriptions.gif to comply with the aforementioned standards.--Funhistory (talk) 05:26, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • First, I withdrew the IFD request immediately after you said you would reupload these without watermarking. I appreciate you doing this as these images are valuable to the project. I understand that you either have an interest or experience in the field of archeology so the work you have done on these articles is very much appreciated. Thank you.
  • The sound bites on the Quidam CD page were used under the fair use content criteria in the article, however item #3 of the criteria requires that only minimal use of a work is employed in any article. Listing sound bites for each song and the extras and other information from this cd is (in my view) a violation of this policy. Since the removal of that content would leave a paragraph about the cd itself, I simply moved that paragraph to Quidam and redirected the article. Adding one (or maybe two) of these sound bites to the Quidam is probably appropriate and I wouldn't oppose this.
    • Compare the page for Madonna's Ray_of_Light CD. There you see links to 9 of its 14 songs; so I think your "1 or 2" is grossly inadequate. And I still don't understand why you put the Redirect on the CD page instead of simply removing the OGG links & at least keeping the basic content there for info about the CD. Actually, I don't even know now how to get to the CD page to fix it because everytime I click on it, it automatically sends me to the Quidam page. This discussion you & I are having should be on the Quidam CD page's Discussion page itself in case someone else has an alternate opinion on whether more than "1 or 2" samples should be included.--Funhistory (talk) 15:03, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have removed a large amount of information from the Quidam article which I feel may be incompatible with Wikipedia's Manual of Style and guidelines for original research. I understand you worked very hard on this article and I don't want to detract away from the work you have done. I also don't wish to minimize the importance of the performance. My edits on the article are intended to bring it closer in line with policy so that it may one day be promoted to featured article status and possibly placed on the main page. I would very much appreciate your help in doing this and, again, thank you for contributing to this encyclopedia. Cumulus Clouds (talk) 04:20, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Full-circle-vhs-pal-carton.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Full-circle-vhs-pal-carton.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 20:54, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to run across you. I see the LMLK seals were your very first article, it's great that you're still active after all this time. I'd be thrilled to have more of your help with the Israel stamps article (etc); in any case, best wishes, HG | Talk 10:19, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Biblical archaeology[edit]

The Biblical archaeology article is getting out of hand, with people arguing about the historicity of this or that book or incident. I regret ever having added the material on Albright and the academic version of biblical archaeology, and I wonder if I can delete it - perhaps move it to the Albright article, or start a new page called Biblical archaeology (academic) with a disambiguation page. I like the idea of your original concept, a list of expeditions, digs, finds etc. I mentioned once before that the best way to present it would be in a table, but I have no idea how to create tables. But perhaps we could begin raising that possiblity on the talk page? PiCo (talk) 06:55, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm in complete agreement with you! At the bottom of my Funhistory page, I put a link to the Table Help because it's one that's hard to find. Here's a direct link for your convenience.--Funhistory (talk) 15:48, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure if you're monitoring the biblical archaeology page. I've finished my revisions, but the way I've done it has opened up the need for some more work. Put simply, I've moved anything that's to do with the theory of archaeology to a new article, called biblical archaeology school. The overview section for Biblical Archaeology is now very thin, but it can be beefed up with info on such things as the major institutions doing archaeology in the region, major contemporary archaeolopgists, and things like tthat. Actual artifacts and excavations go in the tables. Please have a look and add what you can if you like it. PiCo (talk) 04:11, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have indeed been monitoring it, & think you're doing a fine job! Yes, I noticed the new "school" page, & my only thoughts on the bib-arch page summary is that it should be subdivided into the major divisions I had established previously. I simply haven't had time to read it thoroughly yet because I've been working late on business & personal matters.--Funhistory (talk) 14:25, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I just saw the "Nomadist Theory" section, & that will definitely have to go away! No theories should be on this page; just facts!--Funhistory (talk) 14:27, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:FreedomSpirit from Quidam.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:FreedomSpirit from Quidam.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 23:35, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. When I originally uploaded it, it was the only image available for showing this particular character, & was fair use for a description of the various characters in the show. Since large portions of my original contributions to the Quidam page were deleted by another (supposedly because there was too much detail not appropriate for an encyclopedic article, but more akin to fan page), this photo is no longer fair use, & should be deleted. I personally don't know how to delete photos; I don't see a link on the image page, but you are more than welcome to delete it if you know how.--Funhistory (talk) 01:40, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Full Circle (1996 film) for deletion[edit]

A discussion has begun about whether the article Full Circle (1996 film), which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Full Circle (1996 film) until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. SchuminWeb (Talk) 19:04, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:JerusalemTumulus2.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:JerusalemTumulus2.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:13, 26 January 2011 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. A photo usage request[edit]

Dear Funhistory,

I have recently written a book called "A Journey to Faith" in which I follow the genealogy from Abraham to Jesus in the Bible.
As one of the descendants through the line of King David, King Hezekiah is of great interest due to the evidence provided from archaeological findings. I use photographs to help to bring to life what is written about in the book and you have two images that I would love to ask for permission to use - the LMLK seal impression (Lmlk-seal_impression-h2d-gg22_2003-02-21.jpg) and the stamped clay bulla (Stamped-bulla_seal-side.jpg). I know that you have placed these in the public domain, but my publisher requires written permission (email is fine) for me to use them.
Both of these images will be credited to you with an attribute directly underneath each photo in the book.
I look forward to hearing from you - kind regards, Paul Brunton. PaulBrunton64 (talk) 04:07, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • No problem. Glad you have an interest in the subject, & found the seal images of use. Please post another comment here after your book is published so I can buy a copy.Funhistory (talk) 17:20, 26 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hezekiah#/media/File:Stamped-bulla_seal-side.jpg I see you uploaded the current bulla photograph on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hezekiah. Since that one is unprovenanced it would be preferable to replace it with one whose discovery was announced on 2 December 2015: http://new.huji.ac.il/en/article/28173. Are you able to do that? File permission problem with File:KhirbetSharata February2007.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:KhirbetSharata February2007.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page.
