I amended the description of the trio: the arpeggios are played only by the 2nd clarinet as an accompaniment to the first which plays the melody--Zeisseng 20:49, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removing this from the original version of this page and requesting clarification. If all that is meant is that the opening of the first movement of the allegro is a quiet and gracious spot compared to the end of the introduction and compared to what follows, that can be better said, I think... (not by me. Differently yes.)

I removed this: "Comparison with the fifth symphony of Franz Schubert suggests the latter may have had this work at the back of his mind."

I think it's purely speculation and of no real relevance. It also does not quote any source.

It is rather more clear that Schubert had Mozart's 40th in his mind (look at Schubert's minuet, and Mozart's minuet and finale). After all, he is known to have admired that particular Mozart symphony. Double sharp (talk) 15:04, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
