Untitled[edit]

From VfD:

From the article: Zhu Yu is perhaps one of the most important performance artists in the world today. More likely he just wants some free advertising. Wile E. Heresiarch 22:25, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)

  • note: BBC | Taipei Times | UrbanLegends(about.com) | Sky News | The Register. There is, however, no evidence of his having eaten a table. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 23:32, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • As about.com points out, there is good reason to believe last year's event mentioned in the article was a hoax. Even if true, this "artist" is getting very little attention. There are only 3,550 hits for "Zhu Yu" minus "shan" (to avoid articles about the herb). It is interesting to note that the majority of hits in Chinese are not about this person, but other people with the same name. Non-notable. Delete. SWAdair | Talk 00:17, 5 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Non-notable. Resolved by retaining article as a redirect to performance art until such time as it can be improved. -- Netoholic @ 01:07, 5 Sep 2004 (UTC)
    • Please don't do that. Let the debate go forward. Far too often, people step up who have further knowledge and/or add to the article. What you were doing was a final disposition move, and it is not appropriate to do that when a nomination has just been made three hours before. Also, it is not appropriate to have a redirect for everything that is deleted. Had a redirect been a satisfactory final decision, Wile E. Heresiarch would have been able to do it. Geogre 01:20, 5 Sep 2004 (UTC)
    • My feeling is that changes should generally be avoided whilst voting is in progress, so that everybody is voting on the same text. I don't argue that all progress should be halted, but re-directing is probably extreme. Why not propose the redirect and get feedback from others taking part in the VfD discussion. -- orthogonal 01:57, 5 Sep 2004 (UTC)

  • Comment: Reverted to non-redirect version so people can see article text without having to follow extra links. A redirect may be the final decision, but it is too early to do so yet. SWAdair | Talk 04:37, 5 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete - redirect is nonsensical. -- Cyrius|
  • Del. Non-notable. & knuckle-rap these "Resolvings". --Jerzy(t) 04:19, 2004 Sep 9 (UTC)
  • Keep. The article needs work, but the links to news coverage attest to the notability of the subject. [[User:Gamaliel|Gamaliel File:Watchmensmiley20.gif]] 05:54, 9 Sep 2004 (UTC)
    • I just ran a Lexis/Nexis search and got 125 hits, which I think further attests to his notability, or at least notoriety. [[User:Gamaliel|Gamaliel File:Watchmensmiley20.gif]] 06:37, 9 Sep 2004 (UTC)
      • 125 Lexis/Nexis hits does not seem like a significant number for a performance artist - someone whose living should depend on notability (or, as you say, at least notoriety). I found a half dozen sites mentioning him but only in the context of the controversy of his one act of apparent cannibalism. Further, several sources are disputing whether he actually carried out the cannibalistic acts that he claims. Since his sole source of media coverage appears to be this one act, I recommend mentioning him in a single line in cannibalism (which I will go add) and delete this article. His 15 minutes of fame are up. Rossami 22:36, 9 Sep 2004 (UTC)
      • It seems plenty high to me given that the mainstream press doesn’t give much play to performance art beyond Karen Finley’s choco-antics. How many hits would Joseph Beuys or Guillermo Gomez-Pena get? The article as it stands is crap, but given that he’s gotten favorable notices in places like Art Monthly and Art Journal, I’m thinking of writing an improved version myself, but I’m reluctant if it’s just going to get nuked. According to http://www.snopes.com/horrors/cannibal/fetus.htm the foetus in the depiction was fake.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.135.58.242 (talk) 06:06, 22 February 2005

Would probably be nice to get some references that aren't racist and anti-semitic. I did a drive-by clean up of the article, but don't have the time nor the motivation to deal more with this subject. Hopefully someone more inclined can put some effort into it.  ;)  • Gliktch •  (Talk)  09:43, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
