US flights to Fort Myers and Miami[edit]

Whoever posted this, I thought they stopped these US Airways flights. They are no longer on the route map. Maybe I'm missing something? Bcamp09 (talk) 21:30, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Whoever posted it is incorrect. US only flies to PHL and CLT from MIA and only to PHL, CLT, and DCA from RSW. You are correct in thinking both routes were discontinued. NW036 (talk) 21:35, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Former airlines having gate info[edit]

I'd like to remove the gate information from the former airlines section. I don't think we're going to find good sources for it, and I think it's a little excessive for detail. --Matt (talk) 14:49, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I agree. Who cares where former airlines USED to be in the airport. I think gate info in general is too detailed and always leads to arguments. I say remove all of it from the article. Bcamp09 (talk) 22:12, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Midwest Connect to Kansas City?[edit]

Do they still fly this? I tried to book it on the website and the nonstop is gone! Bcamp09 (talk) 03:12, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a forum - so although this is interesting, you're probably not going to get many interesting replies here. Flyertalk.com would probably be a better resource. Hope that helps, --Matt (talk) 21:25, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Northwest 747-200 was a passenger charter used for a mission trip, see Airliners.net Whats Going on at PIT Part 6. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.120.184.152 (talk) 01:16, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Southwest had A Arrival and Departure At A11 on 7/23 how is that possible with it being closed off? Also There is a rumor that southwest will move to the end of B and they will close of A totally. Reply 71.240.2.138 (talk) 02:05, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Who put the "ends in 2009" thing next to San Francisco under US Airways?[edit]

I don't think it is true. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.77.92.197 (talk) 19:06, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

From looking at the edit history, you can tell it was 152.132.10.134. I'll look around and see if it's true. --Matt (talk) 20:17, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Which gates are closed on A and B[edit]

Can someone who works at the airport or knows the answer to this question, please tell me exactly which gates on A and B are closed? Bcamp09 (talk) 20:46, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm almost certain the gates that are closed are A11, A13, & A15-A25 on the "A" Concourse, and B38-B50 on the "B" concourse. I believe it's 13 gates on each. (Jrw91284 (talk) 18:26, 18 November 2008 (UTC))[reply]

US DCA-PIT[edit]

I thought it was only necessary to list departure destinations, not arrival ones. In this situation, US Airways flies mainline DCA-PIT, but hasn't flown PIT-DCA on mainline for awhile. Is it still acceptable to leave DCA as a destination in the mainline section? Bcamp09 (talk) 11:24, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's actually quite unusual to only have mainline service in one direction of a route, but not the other. In my opinion, DCA should remain in the mainline listing, especially considering how often US Airways is changing its service in/out of PIT. Jrw91284 (talk) 18:50, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

cleanup[edit]

From the last time I saw the page, the destination and gate section has become a lot messier and harder to follow. Regional carriers, eg. United Express, should not be listed just like a regular airline, and the way the gates are placed it is harder to follow. Either someone should go back and change it, or maybe change how wikipedia project avaition is doing things, but I would rather not get involved and start an edit war. TravelCRAZED (talk) 23:14, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Feeling is mutual. Once I first saw the new version, it was a "Huh??" moment. As much as I wanted to change it back to the previous version, I also fear an edit war. --Weatherman1126 (talk) 23:51, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. The gate info is separate and less.. "in the way". And it looks more streamlined. Look at LAX's page for example. The only downside to this whole thing is the fact that PIT has so many Delta connection carriers its not even funny. Bcamp09 (talk) 00:56, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I worked out a new layout that keeps the streamline look that is similar to LAX's page, but places the airlines' mainline flights and regional carrier flights into a hierarchy. I think the new layout looks much more organized and is easier to read than either of the 2 previous versions. I too don't want to begin an edit war; but I do think this new layout is a good compromise of the different views in this discussion (and it better organizes all of the regional carriers of Delta, United, and US Airways. why is the delta paris service under concourse D? shouldn't it be under concourse c which handles all international flights?[edit]

concourse c handles all the flights to cancun, montego bay, and punta cana

I think it would be okay to change, because eventually the airplane will be operated out of C for the departure and arrival, they probably won't tow it from C to D from an arrival to a departure. But we'll see.. Bcamp09 (talk) 21:39, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Delta's Paris arrivals will definitely be handled in Concourse C, but it is very possible that the departures will still be from Concourse D at Delta's current gates. While it sounds illogical, many U.S. air carriers operate international arrivals and departures from separate areas. In Chicago, for example, all international arrivals are processed in Terminal 5, yet United and American still operate their international departures from their respective "domestic" terminals, 1 and 3. USA 3000 operates all their international departures and arrivals from Concourse C at PIT because 75% of their destinations are international, so it just makes sense for them to have their gate lease agreement in Concourse C. Delta/Northwest is the opposite. If Delta chooses not to lease a gate in Concourse C for the Paris flight, they will have to pay the airport authority between $250 and $500 per flight segment to use an international gate. Jrw91284 (talk) 21:52, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Someone made a change indicating that the Delta Paris flight will use Gate C59. When was this announced? Jrw91284 (talk) 19:45, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It wasn't, Delta probably wouldn't announce that until very close to the start date or even when it starts. It's not like there's a shortage of international gates or anything. Bcamp09 (talk) 03:34, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Since we don't know yet know what Delta and the airport authority are going to do, is it possible that the Delta Paris flight could be listed under either Concourse C or D, rather than both. It seems a little redundant to list it under both. Other airport articles list their destinations under the terminal/concourse from which the flight departs only. Considering there is a subheading under "Concourse C" explaining international arrivals, it is understood that the Paris flight will arrive there, regardless of where it departs. Jrw91284 (talk) 06:12, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Virgin America[edit]

I've removed twice a statement about Virgin America considering Pittsburgh as a possible destination. It doesn't sound like there is a concrete plan to do this in the near future, and so I think it is overkill to mention in the article - a startup airline might be considering every commercial airport in America in its long term goals, but that doesn't mean every article has to say this. I think we can add it when there's a start date or commitment, not when an article mentions that PIT is under consideration (along with most of the other major US airports). --Matt (talk) 02:01, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, because they basically did announce every major airport in the country for their five year (I think?) outlook. But with current conditions in the economy and that fact that they can't even get O'Hare service to start, I doubt Pittsburgh is being considered right now. They do fly as Direct Air though to Myrtle Beach from here. Maybe they'll take that into consideration for starting service. Who knows, it's probably too far away to see anyway. Take it out. Bcamp09 (talk) 03:37, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Most airport articles have listed the possibility of Virgin America starting service, but it's true that few of them have resulted in concrete plans. Just a sidenote: Virgin America's inability to start service in Chicago wasn't due so much to the bad economy, but because they could not secure the gate space in the already crowded O'Hare Airport. Furthermore, O'Hare is already a large hub for both American and United, which are much larger airlines than Virgin America, and neither wanted a new airline coming in and taking away their passengers. PIT would probably be more attractive since it is not a hub for any airline and there would be far less competition for Virgin. Jrw91284 (talk) 06:22, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

delta and northwest merging ticket counters and gates[edit]

is this happening and if not when —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.240.0.180 (talk) 19:44, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

They are in the process of consoldating gates and ticket counters at various airports around the US. Remember that they are still seperate carriers so do not list NWA destinations to Delta Air Lines, just keep them under the same terminal/concourse. DL and NWA are already together at this airport in Concourse D. Cashier freak (talk) 03:14, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not really. NW is going to ditch their gates and the combined DL/NW will take over D82 and D84 so that they are all on the same side. Bcamp09 (talk) 22:34, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Bcamp09, I totally agree, also they will get D86 and American win take D87 and direct air and midwest will take over D85, leaving D81, D83 unoccupied 71.240.2.67 (talk) 00:33, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The date they are to merge operations in Pittsburgh is March 10 I believe. NW036 (talk) 20:25, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

They will not merge into one airline yet by March 10 since NWA will still have a seperate certificate by that time. Merging of the 2 airlines will take around this time next year to be completed. I hope you only mean just consolidating gates and ticket counters here. See discussion at WP:AIRPORTS and it was decided that DL and NWA are to be listed seperately until operating certificates are merged. Cashier freak (talk) 23:29, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I believe NW036 was talking about the gate and ticket counter consolidation. Follow along on the What's Going On At PIT discussion on airliners.net and you will know what's going on. Bcamp09 (talk) 20:17, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I know. I thought he was saying that NWA and DL will operate as one airline at PIT. But someone just put NWA destinations under Delta. Yes, NWA will use Delta's ticket counters and gates at PIT but will continue to operate as a seperate carrier. Cashier freak (talk) 20:57, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't we put them under Delta as a Delta Airlines operated by Northwest Airlines like we did when America West and US Airways' operating certificates still hadn't merged yet? Bcamp09 (talk) 11:33, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No. There is a discussion of this at WP:AIRPORTS, and it was decided that as long as DL and NW are operating under seperate certificates, they should be listed seperately until the airlines are merged. Cashier freak (talk) 04:12, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NWA is now using gates D82 and D84 as of today. It is still operating seperately at those gates. Cashier freak (talk) 23:53, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

USA 3000[edit]

USA 3000 is starting to fly to Philly from Pittsburgh a few days a week. I got the email. They also fly to Chicago Ohare, Detroit and Cincinnati also. Shouldnt this be as thier destinations??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bau1481 (talkcontribs) 00:27, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You're right they do. Look at the timetable on their website.. Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, and Philadelphia. I'm adding them in. Bcamp09 (talk) 19:56, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Are we sure about this though? I tried to book the CVG flight out of curiosity and when I clicked next available date, it jumped to a date in June and said that the flight was full. I don't think these are regularly operated flights. NW036 (talk) 00:40, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't see any flights listed on the schedule for CVG.. but i tried to book Philly and all the flights are $49 a few times a week. Bcamp09 (talk) 02:47, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

yeah i checked it out they are very rare and are not regulary operated i tried to book a flight between pittsburgh and phl for march and the closest date it gave me was april 15

Delta and Northwest[edit]

Now that Delta and Northwest have combined combined operations at PIT. Does NWA need to stay as a seperate carrier there or should its destinations be listed as "Delta". They did indeed move to gates D82 and D84 per flight status stats at NWA.com but an IP merged the NWA destinations with DL. I am confused whether not "merge operations" means that NWA no longer exists at that airport or NW flights are still seperate (its just operating at DL gates or close to its). Please correct my edit if necessary. Thanks! Cashier freak (talk) 00:20, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ground operation is not the same thing as flight operation. As long as the flights are separate (even if they use the same gates and ground staff), they are still separate. HkCaGu (talk) 04:32, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

isn't Delta now the #2 top airline since they merged with NWA?[edit]

It seems like they have passed SWA up as the #2 cause delta currently has an average of 32 flights and SWA has 22 72.77.92.197 (talk) 19:58, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Does anyone know how the passengers arriving from Delta's Paris flights go through customs? I checked flight status and Delta says flight 189 arrives in concourse D?[edit]

If it pulls in concourse D how do they make sure people go through customs? customs is in concourse C so this is very confusing to me —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.146.68.241 (talk) 14:16, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think they take all of the passengers over to C and down to the customs and then they go from there. It could just be an error, they could actually be pulling into C. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Golfj21 (talk) 19:55, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It was an error. FlightStats.com has been indicating that the flight is arriving at Gate C61 most days, then apparently moving over to Concourse D (usually Gate D78) for departure. Jrw91284 (talk) 03:30, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your right Jrw91284. Flight stats has it arriving at C61 then moving to D76 for departure as DL 249 to Atlanta. The pattern of the plane is ATL-PIT(D78)-CDG-PIT(C61 then to D76)-ATL... Delta Flights 248-188-189-249 --Golfj21 (talk) 19:13, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gate C61[edit]

Since DL 189 arrives daily to C61, should it be listed as a gate for them under Concourse C or added after the gates listed with their destinations in D, Not even listed at all? --Golfj21 (talk) 01:50, 26 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Note has already been made saying that flights from CDG arrive at Gate C61 but flights continue to depart from Concourse D. Also, it is already noted that international arrivals are at Concourse C under the header "International Arrivals". Charmedaddict (talk)

USA 3000[edit]

Someone should check the end dates on the USA 3000 service. I just checked their timetable, and it seems that the CUN and PUJ service ends around the same time that the timetable is valid for, meaning that they will probably have more service beyond the end dates, they just haven't set a timetable for it yet. The RSW service looks like it is ending, though that seems a little bit odd, and should be verified, and it still seems that there is limited, though infrequent, service to PHL still. Someone with more knowledge about the airline should look into it, because I do not want to be the cause of an edit war. TravelCRAZED (talk) 04:40, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

International nonstops-- when?[edit]

We ought to try to figure out when PIT got its first nonstop international flight, and when it got its first nonstop transatlantic flight. I don't even know whether TW ever had a transatlantic nonstop -- anybody got a timetable showing one? Tim Zukas (talk) 18:42, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No international nonstops show in the 2/71 OAG; the next one I have is 8/73, in which Nordair is flying 737s Montreal to Hamilton to PIT. nybody know of an international nonstop before that?

TWA's timetable for summer 1981 shows the PIT-LGW nonstop thrice weekly (started in May 1981). That was the first transatlantic? Tim Zukas (talk) 18:07, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting discussion, seems like it needs reviving. I would love to find out for certain when the first transatlantic and first international happened as well! Marketdiamond (talk) 06:03, 1 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I see this increasingly done on other type of Wikipedia articles, although it isn't chronological it is logical since most looking up an encyclopedic article on an airport aren't looking for its founding history per se thoughts?. Marketdiamond (talk) 08:55, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sun Air Express/Southern Airways Express[edit]

Why was Sun Air Express, which was recently purchased by Southern Airways Express, removed from under the Airlines and Destination section? After a short and summary search on Sun Air Express's website, one can still purchase round trip tickets for example from Lancaster (LNS) to Pittsburgh (PIT). I have found no sources to suggest that Sun Air Express has ceased operations or closed their hub at Pittsburgh International Airport. In fact after searching flypittsburgh.com under all departures and arrivals, I found numerous Sun Air Express flights departing and arriving from gate C52.
