Called Blank at the time[edit]

The Misfits were called Blank at the time of the release of cough/cool. This is mentioned in the Liner Notes for Static Age (The reason they went to record Static Age was because both The Misfits and the Recording company that used the studio were called Blank the company offered them some recording time if they changed their name). Second is that on the record it says Blank (top right hand corner) not The Misfits. Sorry for not leaving a comment on the discussion page first I usually forget to do that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.162.217.46 (talk) 18:13, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It says that both Mercury and The Misfits were using the name Blank so they gave the band 30 recording hours if they changed it (which you can guess they did). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.162.217.46 (talk) 18:19, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, the cover says "The Misfits" in big letters on the lower left. That's the name of the band. The small "Blank" in the upper right is the name of the record label. The Static Age liner notes do not, in fact, say that the band was called Blank at the time. I'm holding the liner notes in my hand right now. Here's what they say (emphasis added):
"Both the Misfits and Mercury were using the label name "Blank" at the time and Mercury gave the band 30 hours of free recording time in order to garner rights for use of the label name."
"Blank Records" was the name of a record label started by Glenn Danzig for the purpose of releasing "Cough/Cool" and subsequent Misfits material. However, Mercury Records wanted the rights to the name Blank Records, which they intended to use as a subisidary imprint to release a Pere Ubu record. Mercury bought the rights to the Blank name from Danzig in exchange for 30 hours of free studio time, which the Misfits used to record Static Age. Danzig then changed the name of the label to Plan 9 Records. The band never went by the name Blank, they were the Misfits from the beginning. "Blank" was the name of their record label This is documented in many other sources as well. Please check your facts. --IllaZilla (talk) 21:04, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
