POV[edit]

This is pretty non-POV. I might have a chance to work on it in a while. - GregoryWeir 23:22, 21 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Indeed it is. While I love the game, I see how this article does not suit wikipedia. Let me see what I can do. (And sorry, Noctis fans. See it like this, now you won't have to do this cruel thing...)

Merges[edit]

I've redirected Stardrifter and Felysian to this page per Wikipedia is not a game guide and the guideline WP:FICT. Pascal.Tesson 01:24, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Expansion[edit]

The current version of this page focuses on the history of Noctis, rather than highlighting its uniqueness. This article really should be expanded to include this. I would do it but I'm not an expert on Noctis (merely a casual player). 76.18.70.123 23:17, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • To clarify, this article needs more information about what Noctis is. The information on what Noctis was and will be is useful, but currently dominates the article. In additon, the GUIDE is mentioned several times throughout the article, and most of those references point the reader elsewhere within the article. There should be a section on the GUIDE to provide a clear and central description of what the GUIDE is for, incorporating the already-existing information about the community of explorers. 76.18.70.123 16:51, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Effective dates of release and beginning of development.[edit]

The article as of April 30 states the game was released in 2002. In fact, the game first appeared on my old homestead at GeoCities/SiliconValley/Platform/1628, which can be seen through the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine as of April 25, 2000: oldest Noctis homepage, list of archived versions with dates. Personally, I was remembering the game's "release date", or more simply when I decided to make the program downloadable from that site, to be somewhere in 1999, but after all these years, I might as well be remembering wrong. At this point I'd say the best thing should be using the archived page's date, and claim it was released on April 25, 2000.

Out of curiosity, I ran a search through my old files I had on backup, and rather safely determined the program must have existed in some early, unreleased version, since at least May 31, 1997. I have taken a screenshot of Windows' explorer showing the relevant files with their "last changed" timestamps; being an (albeit heavily cropped) screenshot of non-free software, I couldn't upload it to the commons and so I'm currently keeping it into a personal folder of my own site: see here for the screenshot. The most relevant timestamp is that of the "alphabet.ncc" file appearing there; that file held a sequence of vector graphics coordinates determining the rendering of letters, numbers and symbols on the in-game's display screen (the display which was built into the front window of the stardrifter). In later versions, a different raster font was used in place of those simple letters to improve the display's readability; however, the file was never deleted from my archived backup, and still bears the date of last change. I remember for sure that when the game was using the "alphabet.ncc" file, it was in its very early stages of development. Alessandro Ghignola (talk) 18:47, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Version history[edit]

Is there a version history online anywhere? I assume the early versions (1996) were for DOS and later ones Windows, or does it still run under DOS? (The Mobygames entry has it as a DOS game). 2fort5r (talk) 18:02, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Download link is dead.[edit]

The AnywhereBB link is dead. Can someone reupload somewhere else? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.30.10.206 (talk) 01:25, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
