Grampa Bill's G.A. Pages[edit]

A question has arisen as to whether "Grandpa Bill's G.A. Pages" should be coincided a valid "Source" for information and if that website is "notable"”. I have noticed this website on a huge number of pages so excluding this source could impact a large number of pages.

I will grant that is would be better to better to include a "direct citation" from the cites on GB's pages, however, I say that GB's pages are good citations for following reasons:

1. Sources don’t have to be notable, only verifiable.
2. The information on this page cites his sources, which means that using GB pages or adding it into the external links give the correct information.
3. The information provided is verifiable. With the information provide on GB's pages the variability of all information is easy.
4. This cite falls under WP:RELIABLE under "In general, the more people engaged in checking facts, analyzing legal issues, and scrutinizing the writing, the more reliable the publication. Sources should directly support the information as it is presented in an article, and should be appropriate to the claims made." This source has been "checked", "analyzed", and "scrutinizing" and have been found to be reliable on 277 pages.

Grandpa Bill's G.A. Pages is an easy way to find verifiable information on General authorities of the LDS church, therefore I think the removal of "Grampa Bill's G.A. Pages" from Wikipedia would be an error.--ARTEST4ECHO (^talk/_contribs) 13:27, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree they are an easy way to get this information, and other published sources like the Church Almanac are not online but have the same information that these pages have. --Trödel 14:57, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wording[edit]

I'm questioning the inclusion of this phrase in the article: "That letter and other insult-trading may have been what provoked M'Lellin to want to fistfight Joseph Smith." POV[edit]

I'm also questioning the inclusion of this sentence: "Although early and modern Mormons are accustomed to reviling M'Lellin, nevertheless outside the group headed by Joseph Smith, M'llelin was a well-respected citizen, a devout Christian who never renounced his belief in the Book of Mormon and the doctrine of a "Mormon Zion" in the American Midwest.[citation needed]" Or, at least the use of the phrase "devout Christian." It seems to me that a "devout Christian" would not, as is stated earlier in the article, "ransack and rob Joseph Smith's home and stable while Smith was being held in jail." Title is incorrect[edit]

An apostrophe is never used for Mc names now, and when it was, it with a curled apostrophe, like a c, not a straight sans serif...--MacRùsgail (talk) 15:48, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Incidentally, though, there are more google hits for his name using the apostrophe than there are using the c. This might be a relic of the fact that until recently, this article used the apostrophe, but use of the apostrophe is certainly not uncommon for this person's name. Unclear Title For Church in Bio[edit]

In the article it states that he met missionaries from the "Latter Day Saint Church of Christ." I think this causes undue confusion. Although the LDS Church was known as the Church of Christ in 1831 when McLellin met the missionaries, this can easily be confused with later similarly named LDS-offshoot denominations called "Church of Christ", or the modern-day Latter Day Church of Christ (a group of Mormon fundamentalist based in Utah). I think the article should read "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (then known as the Church of Christ)".— Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.219.139.221 (talk • contribs) 00:48, 10 June 2013‎

It's not that unclear, because it actually says "Latter Day Saint Church of Christ", with a wikilink to the article about the relevant church. Using "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" would be POV, since that is only one of the many churches that claim to be the rightful successor of the original Church of Christ.
