Rape Quotation[edit]

I have seen the rape quotation several different ways... if someone could find a reliable source and cite it, I would be very appreciative. --Vengeful Cynic 01:10, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There is no reliable source. Clayton may have said it (and surely said some sort of joke involving rape), but it's hearsay. I'm not claiming it shouldn't be in the encyclopedia... it's a huge part of the man's story, but you will never find anything approaching proof that Clayton actually said that. If this guy were not a Republican, I suspect it would be deleted, but that's just my gut reaction to the way Wikipedia works. Everyone knows it and filters wikipedia accordingly, so who cares? 74.192.149.30 (talk) 05:13, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Might be worth noting that the article as written has the joke backwards. The story (as detailed in the NY Times article used as a citation) is that a group of journalists, ranchhands, others, and the candidate were trapped inside a ranch house due to inclement weather. Thence came the gaffe, referring to how they (like a rape victim), had no choice but to "lie back and enjoy it." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.213.59.138 (talk) 18:57, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

McCain campaign controversy[edit]

Changed "the money he contributed to the campaign" to "the money he raised for the campaign" in order to be consistent with the factual evidence cited in the referenced news story. 24.126.149.16 (talk) 03:24, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
