Why did I get some message editing some wiki page regarding this article?

Though it is worthy to note that considering Otacon's father's previously established birthdate, he would be 19 years old during the events of Metal Gear Solid 3, making such a relationship with Granin impossible. Why Kojima didn't simply use Otacon's grandfather remains a mystery. He was a senior scientist in the Manhattan Project, and would have made the likely peer for Granin. It would appear that retconning is in order.

You know, Otacon's father could of also been a genius in which he could of attended collage at an early age. But even if he would of only been 19, that would not make it "impossible" for them to have known each other. No, if you know anything about the scientific/academic world... regardless of how genius he was, such a relationship would be absolutely impossible.
I agree! There's alot of things in MGS3 that either; retcons or contradicts established information from the previous games (such as Ocelot's age, the lost of Big Boss' right eye or Granin designing the plans for Metal Gear REX before the existence of Petrovich's original TX-55 model), but any discussion about them shouldn't be in the article. I don't consider the age of Otacon's father to be a major issue either way. Are we sure it's even Otacon's father and not his grandfather after all? The game never explicitily states who he is either way. Jonny2x4
Yet it is stated here that it IS his father? Plus Kojima did say it was his father outside of the game (in interviews and magazines). I mean there are many grey areas and such, but this contradiction just sticks out like a sore thumb and has to be addressed. So what is the big deal in doing so? Why keep back facts? It is such an obvious mistake as opposed to a conscious effort of stretching things out to fit the story. Big Boss' page deals with these things (latter) and they are much less notable. I simply cannot comprehend why this is being censured. What is the point of this page then? And Wikipedia? I mean, fine, maybe something as BIG as that bit does not appease... and something more compact needs to be fashioned, which is what I will do. AND... if Kojima explains this, then, as one would expect, that should replace it. Because the truth is what we're about. - The guy who made the bit.

Okay, I'm back. Anyway. Otacon's father being friends with Granin is a bit of a stretch, but certainly not implausible enough to be considered a plot hole. You've ever heard the story of Samantha Smith? She was a young American girl who became acquainted with communist leader Yuri Andropov at the age of ten. Naturally, if a young American girl like her can personally meet an important soviet leader in real life, then what prevents two grown fictional characters that live in a universe filled with cyborg ninjas, bee soldiers and a man who gets possesed by his grafted arm from become friends themselves? My guess is that Granin most likely read one of Daddy Otacon's essays about bipedal tanks and became interested and decided to contact him.
Besides, serialized fictions tend to create alot of plot holes and continuity glitches with each passing installment, that we could make an entire Wikipedia about them. It's only plot holes that are debated alot that are worthy of being listed. So far you're the only person that even noticed the age of Otacon's dad.
When did Kojima ever said that Granin's friend is neccesarily Otacon's father? The only time I've seen it mentioned was in the casting sheet (or "leaked document), but it's never actually mentioned within the game's context and can easily go either way.Jonny2x4 02:50, 29 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I would be totally unsuprised if it was actually Otacon's father, and not his grandfather (though I've edited the article rather simply to reflect both ideas), considering the MGS world. The idea that a 19-year old can become aquainted with a major Soviet weapons scientist, to me, seems about as much of a stretch as the idea that Otacon will be hired by a major arms contractor with no college education whatsoever, regardless of his use of the internet as a research tool. This becomes even more plausible considering Jonny2x4's mention of the Samantha Smith scenario, which in itself is FAR more implausible than the one with Otacon's father. -- The Timeturner 21 August 2005

If I remember correctly, Sigint tells Snake (in a radio convo after talking to Grainin, you do this manually) that he remembers a college student who wrote a paper or something on an idea for making a walking tank, revealing the name as (if I remember correctly) Heinson Emmerich. (He says "Emmerson? Heinrich?", mixing up the full name. I think that college student is suppose to be Otacon's father, and Grainin's friend is Otacon's grandfather. ---JackRaiden

Precisely. Am I the only one who remembers that moment in MGS2 when Otacon says "I'm the third generation involved in these terrible machines" or "this curse of nuclear weapons has plagued my family for three generations or something like that? Either way, he was expressing his dismay at being the third generation of his family to be involved in the development of Metal Gear. Seeing as Otacon doesn't have any kids, that would mean him, his father, and his grandfather. Village Baka 03:17, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish?[edit]

Otacon is listed under List of fictitious Jews, which I'm not sure is correct. I have not played MGS1 and probably missed any information regardng his background during MGS2, so can someone confirm this or otherwise remove it?

Metal Gear Mk. II[edit]

The article states that it's equipped with a cell processor, as stated at the end of one of the official trailers. Is it so wrong to believe that Kojima is breaking the fourth wall again and referring to the Playstation 3 itself? I mean, the key to winning the console war? Come on! -Pika132

Please stop making your nonconstructive edits full of fanfiction, breaking the reference links and adding false categories with clearly incorrect information (talk about a 'conflict of interest'!).
