Definition of Mobile Agent[edit]

Based on this definition presented, I would guess that worms such as Code Red, and Nimda are mobile agents since they replicate themselves and move across the internet and intranets of the world?

Agreed, we must include the concept of a Mobile Agent Runtime which will amongst other issues manage security (host protection from malicious agents and agent protection from malicious hosts). This is the only way of distinguishing mobile agents from malware.

Viruses and worms: types of mobile agents?[edit]

Aren't viruses and worms subclasses of mobile agents? Shouldn't this be mentioned in the article? Tmangray 17:39, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mobile Agents v. Viruses, Worms, Javascript, etc.[edit]

The thing that differentiates mobile agents in the usual sense from typical viruses and worms and Javascript embedded in web pages and all like that is that mobile agents carry their state along with them when they move. See the part of the definition on the main page that currently says "process that can transport its state from one environment to another, with its data intact". Code Red etc don't do this.
