War of the Oranges[edit]

The text at War of the Oranges is identical to [1]. Do you have their permission to contribute it to wikipedia under the GFDL?

An anonymous user also contributed the badly titled Spain declares war on Portugal, which is very similar but not identical.

Albanian names[edit]

Hi Kulkuri,

You know what the problem is with the Albanian names? They all have an indefinite form (e.g. Austri, Belgjikë, Kanadë, Shqipëri, etc.) and a definite form (e.g. Austrië, Belgjika, Kanada, Shqipërië, etc.). The names you have been adding lately are a mix of the two, because, for example, Australia, Bellorusia, and Bullgaria are definite forms, I believe (the indefinite forms should be Australië, etc.). Previously, most Albanian names had been added in the indefinite form. However, either the indefinite or the definite form is acceptable, provided it is followed consistently throughout the document. At this point, someone ought to go through all of the Albanian forms in order to make them all uniformly either indefinite or definite.

P.S. You will notice, BTW, that in List of European cities with alternative names the Albanian names often (but not always) have a double entry: indefinite form and definite form. I sort of like that solution. Of course, to make that style consistent throughout the article, a second entry should be added in those cases in which there is only one.

Thanks for feedback. I am aware of this fact. Albanian is not my native language, so I tried to use the form that is most used in texts and maps. Even my dictionary uses both terms mixed. You're anyway right that they should be uniformed throughout the articles.--Kulkuri 13:19, 27 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Hi Marko,

Another thing. In the List of country names in various languages, I noticed you just altered the transcription style for the Russian letter я from ja to ya in your latest edits. Right now, this applies only to the letter "B" (plus Colombia). Everywhere else, it is still ja.

Personally, I prefer ja over ya (mainly because introducing y for a consonant sound creates a conflict with the vowel ы, also transcribed as y), but I realize ya reflects the English spelling conventions, so many people might prefer it for that reason. So, I could be persuaded to go along with it.

However, the most important thing is internal consistency and uniformity. If we are going to have transcriptions such as Belorussiya, Bel'giya, Boliviya, Bosniya, Bolgariya, and Kolumbiya (these are the only ones so far with ya), then we can't have all the others that still end in -ja (such as Albanija, Armenija, Avstralija, Avstrija, etc.) and also we can't have j in a number of other contexts, such as Azerbajdzhan and Bahrejn (where j stands for й), and so on and so forth.

Please think about it carefully before altering an established transcription convention, since this is bound to confuse people. By comparison, you might want to look at what was done with the Russian names in an older article: List of European cities with alternative names.

Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to [[Wikipedia:Multi-licensing|multi-license]] all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}

OR

Option 2
I agree to [[Wikipedia:Multi-licensing|multi-license]] all my contributions to any [[U.S. state]], county, or city article as described below:
{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" with "{{MultiLicensePD}}". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. List of country names in various languages under attack !!![edit]

Dear Marko,

The List of country names in various languages, List of European regions with alternative names, List of European cities with alternative names, List of European rivers with alternative names, and others, have come under attack by a certain Mikka, who, having just stumbled into all these lists, having found them of little use to himself, and having repeatedly ridiculed them and their users, has then promptly filed a petition to delete the lists in question.

Please cast your vote to keep these valuable, informative, and indeed fascinating lists at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of country names in various languages.

Talk:Race and intelligence[edit]

I noticed that you were vocal in debates about the race and intelligence articles earlier. We need your help right now. We're coming very close to revising this article to be something like neutral and only one user is standing in the way! What we need now is an overwhelming show of support from all of the people over the past few years who have complained and criticized this article. We're going to put everything in historical context, so that research some regard as "scientific racism" can't be presented as pure, unquestioned, unbiased science. This will give readers the chance to make up their mind with the appropriate context. Please stop by the talk page and read the section on "moving forward" I hope that you choose to be a part of this.
