Army in the Republic of Cyprus is obligatory and also for 25 months (2003)

Aren't the M48 in Cyprus 82? They're divided in two tank battalions of 41 tanks each. One belongs to Greece and one to Cyprus (though technically all tanks belong to Greece). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 155.207.249.111 (talk) 13:07, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

merger[edit]

as the military has only one force, having two articles is unnecessary. maybe redirect CNG to MOC? ninety:one 16:31, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation page[edit]

Made this a diambiguation page as there are two Military Forces on Cyprus:

  • Cypriot National Guard of the Greek Republic of Cyprus
  • Turkish Cypriot Security Force of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus--Degen Earthfast (talk) 17:35, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

redirect[edit]

R'n'B, Why do you insist on redirecting the MoC to the Greek Cuypriot National Guard when there are two de facto countries on Cyprus? And each with its own armed forces. The Cypriot National Guard of the Greek Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriot Security Force of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. --Degen Earthfast (talk) 18:21, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"On Cyprus" and "in Cyprus" are different. Military of Northern Cyprus is the article on the military of Northern Cyprus. This allows Military of Cyprus to be used for the military of Cyprus. This is a normal method of standardization based upon the way the individual countries are titled on Wikipedia. Thus Military of Ireland redirects to Irish Defence Forces (the military of Ireland) and is not a disambiguation page because there is a different military associated with Northern Ireland. Since Germany is an article on the current country, Military of Germany sends users to its military without special reference to the Military of East Germany. If Cyprus was rather at a different title, you would be correct. Military of Korea is a disambiguation page because neither North Korea nor South Korea is located at Korea. Can you find any instances of links to Military of Cyprus that are actually referring to Military of Northern Cyprus? If all of the links are correct, that would be an indication that the setup is working as intended. Dekimasuよ! 06:43, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent explanation, Dekimasu. Hopefully this will settle it. --JaGatalk 12:42, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
