disambig page[edit]

UCI currently redirects to University of California, Irvine - I think the disambig page would be a better fit at that location. I thought of the cinema chain first, and I imagine many others would think of the cycling organisation. sjorford →•← 00:05, 20 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. Move back to having the disambig page at UCI, as it was prior to a move in March. Niteowlneils 17:47, 21 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: Page moved. Unanimous support with valid reasoning. (non-admin closure)  — Amakuru (talk) 08:55, 22 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

UCI (disambiguation)UCI – This page has been subject to a recent rash of moves back and forth over the undisambiguated title, UCI (which currently redirects to University of California, Irvine). I have no opinion on the propriety of this title, but I believe that a good case can be made for the title being ambiguous, and that a discussion should be held to determine whether the current redirect is, in fact, the primary topic of this title, or whether there is no primary topic at all, and the disambiguation page should be moved to the undisambiguated title. bd2412 T 21:31, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support I think that UCI should be the disambig page with UCI (disambiguation) redirecting there. --evrik (talk) 21:34, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • I am not strongly inclined one way or the other, but can you explain why you think this? bd2412 T 21:38, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
      • UCI (the school) may be regional in influence. UCI (bicycling) may be a niche market. --evrik (talk) 21:42, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
        • That was also apparently a consideration eight years ago, when this title was also discussed. Looking at the three major possible meanings (and many lesser meanings), I agree that it is hard to find a clear primary topic for the term. bd2412 T 21:51, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support the move, UCI should either redirect to the disambiguation page, or be the disambiguation page itself. There should be a way that this page is not moved forever back and forth, maybe by a move protection. Place Clichy (talk) 23:05, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Mild oppose. I don't think there's a strong contender for primary topic apart from the school. None of the other listings here, including the cycling unit, seem that notable to me (at least not in the context of this abbreviated form). Meanwhile, universities are super-frequently called by their abbreviations in English. Red Slash 05:12, 15 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. The Union Cycliste Internationale is an international organisation and by most of the people only known it as UCI. As Red Slash says that the University of Caifornia is calles UCI as well, two articles would like to have the name UCI. A disambiguation of the UCI article can sort this out. Sander.v.Ginkel (talk) 09:17, 15 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: clearly "UCI" is a university, for Americans, and the international cycling organisation for all the rest of us (and perhaps a few cycling Americans). The dab page needs to be at the base name. (But for the moment I've added a hatnote to the University article, so that at least people get pointed to the, malformed, dab page and have a chance of finding other topics). Actually, I'll go and tidy up the dab page a bit as it's in a bad way. PamD 13:14, 15 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - UCI is very ambiguous. It would be better, clearer and more user-friendly as a disambiguation page.

Anagrams at See Also[edit]

I don't believe we really need "see also" entries for CIU, CUI, ICU, IUC, UIC. On that logic any 3 letter word could have up to 5 anagrams listed as "See also", and any 4-letter word could have 23. I've removed these. PamD 08:38, 19 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
