I have searced but not found any evidence that Barry T Cooke is a Russian. Google searches for this name and 1900 or words associated with the mixed team and olympics drew no relevant hits. I'm removing the references to nationality. from Cooke. Robertbrockway 07:09 Apr 26, 2005 (UTC)

I think this article might be more informative if it covered the subject of mixed teams at the Olympics more generally, rather than just the 1900 games. I looked at the linked web site and it appears that mixed teams only appeared in the 1896, 1900, and 1904 games, but I didn't go further ahead than 1920. (Just edit the year in the URL after you get to the page.) Does anyone know if they were banned after 1904, or if they just died out, or if there actually were later instances? It appears there was a combined US/Cuban fencing team in 1904, which must have been pretty interesting. (Update: I just checked up to 1948, and can find no mixed teams post 1904.) --DavidConrad 04:52, 31 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Before 1908 national delegations were not officially recognized, and athletes participated as individuals. That allowed for teams of mixed nationalities. From 1908 onward athletes were only entered by their national Olympic commitee, and mixed teams were no longer possible.
