Song[edit]

whats the name of the song that plays during the show me the money segment????

"Famous quotations" are not quotations. It is a chunk of dialogue. Jay 20:00, 20 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Quotes[edit]

There are more strong yet memorable quotes such as:

You complete me...

You had me at hello...

Help me, help you!

Of course it doesnt sound strong and memorable on text.

It would be nice to see a list of parodies of the film. A couple I can think of:
  • In "The Simpsons" ('Beyond Blunderdome'), Homer says to Mel Gibson: "You had me at 'hello'", to which Mel responds: "I didn't say 'hello'".
  • In "Team America: World Police", Lisa says to Gary: "You had me at 'dicks fuck assholes'.
I know there's quite a few more but can't think of any others right now specifically.--Jeffro77 11:06, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Dr. Evil in Austin Powers 2, he says "Show me the money" and "you had me at hello"... Help plz 16:25, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I just remembered, he also did the "You complete me" thing to Mini Me... - Man I am sad :( Help plz 16:29, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Who is Crowe?[edit]

Jerry Maguire remains famous more than a decade on due to the memorable quotes, largely attributed to Crowe. The name Crowe is not mentioned any time before this sentence in the article.--Anupam Srivastava 18:21, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Crowe is Cameron Crowe, the director/producer/writer. -- Mike The All-Knowing 12 September 2006

Show me the edit[edit]

Do we really need commentary on what Cameron Crowe meant? If it's clear from the film, leave it out. If it's not, Crowe's an idiot (Harshaw's Law). Trekphiler 12:49, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Haven't seen it (so I'm 1 of 2 or 3 who haven't...), so, what team did Glenn Frey own? The Cards? Trekphiler 13:03, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Who's Song[edit]

The Soundtrack section is wrong: The song performed by The Who band was not "Magic Bus", but "Gettin' in Tune". It is played in the background when Maguire is writting his mission statement. Manuel Cuevas 16:10, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Magic Bus plays during the intro monologue, when he's introducing SMI and his dislike for the industry. Gettin' in Tune is practically the next song. 12.152.184.6 17:30, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Starcraft[edit]

A possible addition to the trivia section, one of the cheatcodes in the 1998 PC RTS game Starcraft is "Show me the money", which, went entered, gives a large sum of the game's resources.

I know, it's kind of irrelevant, but stuff like it is in other articles.

  • Already done

Office?[edit]

The article describes "However, after a cooling-off period the following day, he calls the office to see if the mission statement went out, which it has. He goes into the office", however it seems to me that he's placed the statements in the mailboxes at the hotel where the company is staying in Miami for the annual meeting, and when he comes out of the elevator he's entering the lobby, and that's where everyone claps for him. It doesn't seem at all like an office, especially considering the fact he's carrying luggage. 12.152.184.6 17:32, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lucy Liu as a former girlfriend[edit]

Lucy Liu is listed as one of Jerry Maguire's former girlfriends. Where does she show up in the movie if she shows up at all? I have not noticed her in the movie.

Trivia[edit]

I will try to incorporate important points from the trivia section into the article and delete inapropriate things. Let me know if you disagree with any of my edits. Thanks. SWik78 (talk) 16:56, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cameos[edit]

I cleaned up this section a bit combining a few lines, adding a few new people and expanding the section name to "Cameos and Trivia" since a few of the tidbits didn't have anything to do with a cameo role. Birdmantd (talk) 20:45, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changes[edit]

This article used to reference the lawsuit that came out as a result of them editing out some endorsements that had been made for the movie. Where'd that go? Also, did Jerry Maguire not do #1 at the box office the week it was release? If so, where's the box at the bottom of the page for that? 71.232.26.8 (talk) 01:03, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Quotations[edit]

The article implies that several quotations were invented and popularised by the movie, but not source is provided. Some of these, such as show me the money are clearly associated with the movie (although it still needs a source). Others much less so. For example 'help me help you' almost definitely existed before the movie, a simple OR usenet search shows this. This may apply to 'you complete me', too Nil Einne (talk) 18:28, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cultural Reference: Song mash-up with dialogue[edit]

I don't remember the name of the song but after the movie was released and became a hit and cultural icon, a DJ (if memory serves) spliced into the song the romantic dialogue from Jerry Maguire. Does anyone else remember that? Was it mostly a Boston thing? Should that be mentioned in the cultural reference section? The mash-up was a big hit and sparked a small trend to combine songs with recorded words. There was one about the same time with a supposed graduation speech.--Bruce Hall (talk) 11:05, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Basis In Reality?[edit]

I heard once that the character Jerry Maguire is actually based on a specific real-life person. Does anyone know if this is true and, if so, who that would be? MarkoOhNo (talk) 09:27, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Leigh Steinberg

Lead(s)[edit]

I was wondering if there is a reason why Cuba Gooding, Jr is mentioned in the lead, but Renee Zellweger isn't? almost-instinct 09:52, 10 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Several[edit]

There have been more than a few edits about the reception Jerry Maguire received as a video release. Keep in mind the film came out prior to 2000 and VHS information is not easily found.Extraordinary2 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 23:58, 20 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
