Comments[edit]

According to http://www.parliament.uk/directories/hciolists/hmg.cfm#4 , there are seven Lords of the Treasury:

The various secretaries to the Treasury and the Paymaster General are not Lords Commissioners. User: Opera hat 2.21 a.m., 9 January 2005

Current situation[edit]

We say that there are at least six concurrently, and then that, at present there are only two. Have the junior lords just not been appointed yet? john k (talk) 15:10, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This article is a total mess[edit]

This article needs a total rewrite. It confuses two entirely different types of office. It isn't helped by the ancient and archaic titles used in the British Government - but isn't that what encyclopaedic article are supposed to explain?

Essentially, the 1st Lord of the Treasury is the Prime Minister. The 2nd Lord of the Treasury is the Chancellor of the Exchequor, and is the only "Lord of the Treasury" actually to have any direct role in the Treasury department. The remaining "Lords of the Treasury" are correctly known as the Lord Commissioners of the Treasury, which is simply the formal title given to the Government junior whips. The article is factually accurate, so that there is nothing wrong with it in principle. What you may want is at HM Treasury, which describes how the Treasury actually operates. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:02, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

List of previous Lords Commissioners of the Treasury[edit]

There should be a list of previous office holders. It would be quote some work to make — perhaps somebody at HMT could do the work? JDAWiseman (talk) 11:28, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
