Bieiris or Bietris de Romans was probably a trobairitz sometime in the 11th - 13th centuries. Her main claim to fame is her canso 'Na Maria, pretz e fina valors' (PC 93.1 = 16a.2), which has at times been interpreted to be a lesbian love song. The song is an unicum present only in Troubadour MS T.

Oskar Schultz-Gora included it in his 1888 Die provenzalischen Dichterinnen and compared it to the poems of Sappho, describing it as, '[ein Liebeslied] von der Bieiris de Romans im zärtlichsten Tone an eine andere Dame gerichtetes'. He was criticized for this inclusion, and later retracted his attribution of the poem to Bieiris, claiming that the manuscript attribution was a misspelling of the name of the Italian troubadour Alberico da Romano. Pillet and Carstens notes this, and gave the song two distinct PC numbers (see above). Pierre Bec included the song in his Burlesque et obscenite chez les troubadours under the heading Un poeme homosexuel?.
