On a lighter note, maybe, after looking at your impressive Video poker (note lower-case "p") table, but shuddering at the code (and sympathising), I must ask whether you have discovered the terribly easy table software WP uses - see a copy and comments, with a link to the original style page, on my subpage User:Robin_Patterson/tables,etc.

Simplified Chinese to Pinyin?

If anyone can refer me to a good source (either a web page, a book or dictionary, a special electronic translator, or some software I could buy?) that makes it possible to type in (or draw with a stylus) Simplified Chinese characters from a Chinese text (or a map in this case) and have it translated into Pinyin, I would be very grateful.

I am having limited success with this task, even working with a native speaker, as she can pronounce what she reads, but doesn't know Pinyin.

The translators and dictionaries we have don't do a good job with proper names (such as street names or names of landmarks). We have one translator that allows the user to enter Simplified Chinese using a stylus, but it can only show Pinyin for words in its dictionary.

Surely in this day and age there is a way to automate this type of translation?

OK, after some more research, it appears that there is an Input Method called "Wubi" that allows the user to type in Chinese characters without knowing the Pinyin (which appears to be a requirement when entering proper names that do not appear in a translator). However, it appears that there are a number of different "Wubi" input method editors. Can anyone recommend a particular version of a Wubi Input Method Editor (for a Windows computer) that they have had good experience with? I am working with a fluent Mandarin speaker and Chinese writer.

One other alternative, I found some stylus pads on YesAsia and a few other sites. Would using a stylus pad be a better alternative? If so, any recommendations?
