Constructivism[edit]

I wonder if the link to constructionism was an error that should have pointed instead to constructivism (pedagogical)? Michael Hardy 20:27, 18 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I think so, so i'm changing that

Much to the chagrin of disoriented graduate students everywhere, constructionism and constructivism are distinct though closely related. -- SethTisue 22:38, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Constructivism is a theory of learning, constructionism is a theory, based on constructivism, that suggests that people learn best by "making tangible objects in the real world." -- Dwees (talk) 05:12, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Accident in Hanoi[edit]

When he was hit by a motorbike in Hanoi on 5dec06, while crossing the street, he was there studying their "notoriously chaotic traffic" -- seems that the article should mention that. Early life[edit]

This article really ought to mention who supervised Papert's thesis. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.162.206.129 (talk) 23:43, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I do not believe that his first wife was Sherry Turkle. This should be corrected. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.164.63.4 (talk) 18:26, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sherry Turkle was his third wife. My mother, Androula Christofidou was his second wife. I agree that this should be corrected in the article. Should I just correct it? -- Artemis Papert —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.126.80.232 (talk) 23:25, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the information. If you know of a source that documents all of his marriages, this would be extremely helpful to add as a reference, as well. best, -- phoebe / (talk to me) 07:49, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is Papert American?[edit]

He resides there and works there but he isn't from the US. Is he an American? Boils (talk) 00:24, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Elaboration on French project?[edit]

The page needs a better description on Papert's work on helping the 3rd world with computing and the French and the morass and controversy. His pre-One Lap Top per Child work. This is extremely important as a project post-mortem. 209.129.244.250 (talk) 21:04, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth[edit]

Can anyone provide a reference for the 29th February 1928 birth date? These two sources both state 1st March 1928.

Papert, Piaget and Chomsky[edit]

There was a rather famous (if you're a linguist!) discussion between Chomsky and Piaget, which was made into a book[3], partly downloadable here [4]. Papert, as an admirer of Piaget, was helping to defend Piaget's ideas from Chomsky's attacks (with several linguists on Chomsky's side performing an analogous function, although Chomsky hardly needs such help). As a linguist, my sense is that Chomsky clearly won the debate (although Chomsky didn't characterize it as a debate); and that the biologists present, some of whom had organized the meeting, agreed (indeed, they were flabbergasted at Piaget's beliefs about evolution). I don't have as clear a sense of how Papert's presentation (a chapter in the book) was perceived, although the linguists didn't seem to find him much more convincing than they did Piaget.

I think this is relevant to this article not only because Papert was there, but because he and Chomsky were both at the same institution (MIT), and so clearly differed.

Perhaps someone who knows Papert better could contribute some words about this incident. Mcswell (talk) 23:34, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
