VfD on Afrophobia[edit]

Hi!

I just wanted to announce that I've overhauled the afrophobia article, and we're brainstorming future additions on its talk page. Some Wikipedians have changed their votes after seeing the revamped article. Binadot 07:48, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Images from the U.S. Congressional Biographical dictionary[edit]

Howdy Meelar. Could I ask that you list these images on Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images instead? That way we'll have 30 days to look them up instead of just seven. I believe those images are Public Domain, and that the disclaimer applies to other images, but I'll e-mail the site to ask. Thanks! – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) 12:29, Mar 29, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome[edit]

...but I'm hardly new. I used to go by User:B Touch. But, still, thanks tho! :) --FuriousFreddy 17:00, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

LBJ[edit]

I think that the part you added "...since 1964" means something else, since you were writing about the 1964 election. Morris 13:09, Mar 31, 2005 (UTC)

Hey! My talentless hack article was a legitimate piece of work. How dare you censor me!

GRider[edit]

He's going to keep deleting his talk page you know. -- Riffsyphon1024 03:06, Apr 1, 2005 (UTC)

:-/[edit]

I didn't edit the proposed injunction against. I merely added a vote to the list of Opposing people. I think way too many people are being harsh on Grider. Klonimus 04:12, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • Who are you really, Klonimus? You've only been here a few days and you seem to already know everything. -- Riffsyphon1024 05:09, Apr 1, 2005 (UTC)

User 65.27.80.50 won't quit vandalising, having now taken out Pall Mall (cigarette) and it's talk page. Can we do something about this user? --TheGrza 23:22, Apr 3, 2005 (UTC)

This user has now gone after my user page. Any help? --TheGrza 23:36, Apr 3, 2005 (UTC)

The Simpsons: Hit & Run[edit]

Hi Meelar. In the Hit & Run article I was just wondering why you restored the Halloween episodes reference? I just don't see it myself, it seems like a fairly normal style game with different levels and stuff, if anything then the fact that it has a theme throughout the game means that it's not like the Halloween episodes (which often have unrelated segments). I know there are Halloween references in that there is a Halloween part at the end and I believe that if you have the date set on your PS2 then it has different themes on different days but I wouldn't really call that mirroring the style and spirit of those episodes.

Anyway I'm not going to delete it because maybe I'm just not seeing it but could you please explain it to me! Thanks. -- Lochaber 12:06, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Wow, you accused me of vandalism?[edit]

This is from a while ago, but thanks for lying about me here. (I have no idea why it's on wikiquote.org).

Let's see, what'd you say about me?

Has repeatedly edited to say that the United States Constitution was amended 18 times after the bill of rights, not the correct 17. Erased a note left on his talk page. Meelar (talk) 05:17, Oct 11, 2004 (UTC)

Repeatedly, eh? How many edits do you find by me here? Damn, I only see one.

Here, let's see if I was actually factually wrong. As of 2005, there are 27 Amendments_to_the_United_States_Constitution. The United States Bill of Rights was ratified in 1791.

Now, let's count how many times the Constution was amended.

  • the 1st time the Constitution was amended - 1791 (the Bill of Rights)
  • the 2nd time the Constitution was amended - the 11th Amendment
  • the 3rd time the Constitution was amended - the 12th Amendment
  • the 4th time the Constitution was amended - the 13th Amendment
  • ...

As you can see, in general, for x>1, the xth time the Constitution was amended corresponds to the x+9th Amendment. Now, the last Amendment was the 27th.

x+9=27

That would make x equal to 18. Hence, the Constitution has been amended 18 times since 1789.

But, moreover, did you even look at any of my other edits before reporting me a vandal? A vandal in progress, no less.

As a new user (my account was less than 2 months old or so at that point), I didn't know why the hell there was something on my talk page. Plus, I was right.

Try being more careful. You're not always right. Thanks. -Grick(talk to me) 05:49, Apr 5, 2005 (UTC)

Sorry, that was a bit harsh. I was a new user at the time, so I wasn't quite familiar with talk pages and such (and I thought I may have figured out the math wrong myself). It just surprised me to see myself as a "vandal in progress" upon Googling my name. I try hard to be a productive Wikipedian, and I really did not appreciate seeing my name among vandals'.
Don't take this personally; I hope you just take a bit more care, I suppose.
Cheers. -Grick(talk to me) 06:21, Apr 5, 2005 (UTC)

Editing[edit]

I'm allowed to edit more than 3 times if it is vandalized; which is what you are doing.

What is wrong with what I have posted. It is obvious you don't agree with it but that is not reason for exclusion; especially when I use unbiased facts. --Nyr14 18:03, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)

Again, I can revert if I believe the page has been vandalized. Vandalizing being to To destroy or deface (public or private property) willfully [[1]]. Basically that is what you are doing. --Nyr14 18:06, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)

Just because you don't agree with the facts does not mean you can delete them. --Nyr14 18:16, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)

John Lott's study was the only one I was aware of but thanks for noting the Brady one.

--Nyr14 23:43, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)

Why did you revert my edit at John Kerry just now? Please explain.216.153.214.94 03:20, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

While editing tonight from my other IP address of 216.153.214.94, shortly after I communicated with you, I found myself blocked: "03:23, 7 Apr 2005, Neutrality blocked 216.153.214.94 (expires indefinite) (contribs) (Banned user Rex disruptively editing from a (static) IP address. If he wants to make legit edits, he can edit under his username.)".

Without getting into the details of the many run-ins I've had with Neutrality, I'll just point out that his rationale for blocking me appears to be false. I am not a "banned user".

Also, regardless of whether or not Neutrality thinks I ought to use the "Rex" account of Rex071404, the fact is that the Wiki does not require that I log in. That being the case and since it's clear to various Admins who 216.153.214.94 is, I see no logic of any kind in Neutrality's indefinate block of me.

Earlier this evening, I asked on the John Kerry talk page this: "Will those editors who keep immediately reverting all my edits here kindly exlplain why they think they are entitled to keep John Kerry 100% frozen "as-is"? Thank you".

Please take note that Neutrality did not reply. Frankly of the last edit of mine (which you restored after I commented to you), I'd be interested to know precisely what it is about that edit (or style of editing) which Neutrality asserts is "disruptive".

Also, Neutrality has shown himself to be rather blind to the ramifications of his block against me - as evidenced by his self-contradictory position. One one hand, he blocks my IP address yet, on the other he says "If he wants to make legit edits, he can edit under his username". This is nonsense. Neutrality certainly knows (or at least ought to know) that if .94 is blocked by IP address, I cannot edit from that address, logged in or not.

Please go take a look at my thoughtful commentary on the talk page at Lawrence v. Texas. At all times since my 1st edit on this Wiki, I have 100% of the time been willing to dialog and support my edits. It is the bullies such as JameMLane, Gamaliel and Neutrality that have gone out of their way to harry and harrass me since day one. The simple fact is that none of those three like Conservatives. In fact, JameMLane (last time I looked) specifically said on his user page that he is "hostile to the right wing".

For an example of the pro-Liberal bias that is attacking my edits, please see Killian documents and John Kerry. The pro-Liberal bias on those two articles is simply smothering and overwhelming.

Take for instance John Kerry. On the links section of John Kerry, there is a link for the pro-Kerry puff-piece documentary Going Upriver but the Liberal Cabal simply will not allow a link to Stolen Honor (a documentary by a Pulitzer prize winner which is critical of Kerry) to stay in.

And they wonder why people get frustrated and lash out occasionally? They do everything they can to choke off Conservative editors, then when they can no longer goad them to going over 3RR (or otherwise act out), they simply tell lies and call me a "banned user".

Anyway, just thought you'd like to know. Also, if you respond to me, please do so at 216.153.214.94. My aim is to see that block lifted and resume editing from there. Regards, 216.153.214.93 04:46, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for supporting my admin nomination Meelar; I appreciate it, and the kind words as well. Happy editing, Antandrus 05:25, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi Meelar, I would like to help with maintenance on on the Wikipedia namespace.

  • Is there a way for non-admins to help with closing out copyright problems (to help shorten the backlog on that page)?
  • When I'm patrolling the RC, how can I avoid duplicating others' work (e.g. both me and someone else reporting a vandal)? That type of situation has happened a few times.

I was going to work on closing out VFDs, but I'm too much of an inclusionist to even handle it. :) Thanks, Rad Racer | Talk 01:10, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi Meelar, You listed some images that you uploaded as copyvios (from http://bioguide.congress.gov). Bioguide notes that not all images are PD, but I couldn't determine if the images listed were a copyright violation (let me know if I missed something here).

I re-listed them on pui. --Duk 23:06, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Maybe someone at pui will know more, also there's probably a fair use rationale, and an email to bioguide might be worthwhile. I've tagged other bioguide images as {{unverified}}. --Duk 03:08, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Canadian legislators[edit]

Hmm...I'm not sure what the general term for both would be. I was thinking "parliamentarians," but Senators aren't really in Parliament. I'm not sure there's a good term for Senators except "useless rich people." Thanks[edit]

Thank you so much for your kind words, which, as usual, come when I most have need of them. As far as leaving permanently, I doubt I could ever get escape velocity from this place, but I may go into a larger orbit and get clear of the atmosphere for a few days or weeks. It's frustrating to feel as though anytime you voice an opinion you're brushed aside as a "petty prude". I'd thought I'd earned a little more than that here, but I increasingly see unfamiliar names--the old guard disappears and I haven't had the energy to meet the new folks, so I suppose it's no wonder they think I'm some reactionary from the hills. All my best wishes to you: for your sake (and the sake of a number of other good souls still editing here also), I promise not to disappear for good. But if I make little exits here and there, I trust you will forgive me. All the fatigue and exasperation seems to be hitting me at once; April is the cruelest month. Hi Meelar, You re-wrote this article at temp, but the original cannot be deleted at the moment due to block comression. If you want to copy/past (intstead of move) the article go ahead. It's ok to have copyvios in history. Otherwise it will be a while before the original can be deleted and your article moved. --Duk 16:04, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I thought this too until recently, instructions on Wikipedia:Copyright problems say to revert to pre-copyvio version unless copyright holder askes to have history deleted. There are no instructions for this particular case, but it seems better to copy/past (since you're the only author to the /Temp page) than letting the article sit this way until the main one can be deleted. --Duk 16:21, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)
PS. looks like SPUI found a better way to do this, Wikipedia_talk:Copyright_problems#How_to_proceed_with_undeletable_articles_when_a_rewrite_exists. --Duk 20:41, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I'm sorry[edit]

hi everyone, i just want to tell you that i am sorry for everything i did. I am not here to vandalize, but to apologize and to say a few things also. i am sorry for everything i did. Rickk, booth443, i apologize for vandalizing articles, being impolite at talk pages, and for getting a little too mad at you, ken. calles loco, sla boy, and tj raza are all my accounts. I am very sorry for the vandalism. please accept my apologies.

but what i am upset about is that all of you admins dont even care about the presence of dangerous sex offenders on wikipedia. the victims get banned, but a convicted feloner gets treated nicely and doesnt even recieve a warning?

i know ken. he knows me. one night, he broke in and attacked my girl friend scared her and just beat her up bad. he mercilessly and savagely humiliated an innocent life. he didnt just do that for no reason, it had something to do with a complicated matter that i dont want to mention.

but anyways, shouldn't feloners like this receive a warning? shouldnt potential stalkers and criminals be notified or banned on wikipedia? why dont you even care? im not trolling this time, I'm serious. please deal with ken - he is not just a harmless contributer. a ferocious and savage rapist wont just be ignored on wikipedia. please at lest do something!

Re: Senate leader succession boxes[edit]

Meelar, I saw one of these on Harry Reid's page, and figured if he had one, why shouldn't Frist? Also, I'm systematically going through all current senators and giving them the same style succession boxes.

Writing the party leadership could be good, but it is important for people like Frist to show his power. I don't know, it could be good, but the convention for other leaders around the world on Wikipedia is to write position in political structure, not their party. You decide :P! --Harro5 07:29, Apr 21, 2005 (UTC)
Take Trent Lott's succession boxes for example. I think the way this is done gives a good representation of the timeline of his career, and the balance in the Senate. --Harro5 07:40, Apr 21, 2005 (UTC)

Barack Obama references[edit]

That is fine, since I think the most important thing is that as you said they substantiate the facts in the article. Dispute[edit]

Since you are an admin can you help resolve a dispute over inclusion of pictures on the Bill Clinton page?

Here's a summary of what has happened so far (from how I see it):

I expanded a section of the article because the criticisms of Clinton's foreign policy was too concise and seeemed extremely dismissive of the criticisms. No one challenged the neutrality or made any changes to the section for eight days. Everything is extremely well referenced and neutral.

Then on Sunday a picture was added with Clinton holding a little boy. I then added two pictures of NATO attacks that Clinton had ordered and later justified. The two pictures are:

and File:Solana12.jpg.

I agree that the picture of Clinton with the refugees should be shown but, to ensure neutrality, a picture not so pro-Clinton should also be shown.

On my talk page (User talk:Nyr14) the argument was made: "If you find it fit to put those grotesque images on the Clinton page, will you put similar images from Iraq on the Bush page?" That argument implies that the pictures should be displayed and I also pointed out that we weren't talking about Bush's page but the Clinton page.

After I pointed this out the argument was changed to relevancy. However, the pictures are extremely relevant. The bombing was one that Clinton ordered and later took the blame for. This is recorded in an article titled "Civilian Deaths Inevitable In Warfare, Clinton Says" from page A11 of The New York Times on April 16, 1999. The article says,

"What we believe happened is that the pilot thought it was a military convoy and that there were apparently civilians in the convoy who were killed. That is regrettable; it is also inevitable," the President said. Despite such "errors," he vowed to continue the bombing campaign until President Slobodan Milosevic of Yugoslavia stopped terrorizing and killing Albanians and driving them from their homes.

And the text of the press conference is in the National Archives [4].

I have tried to discuss this with the people that remove the pictures both on the Bill Clinton talk page (Talk:Bill Clinton) and through various personal messages to the people whom remove the pictures User talk:Radicalsubversiv User talk:ChrisDJackson. They, however, do not respond and continue to remove the pictures when I put them back up. For this I have gotten empty rhetoric and ad hominum attacks. Please, if you could, help us to resolve this dispute.

Sincerely, --Nyr14 02:22, Apr 26, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

Thank you for the prompt response to my question, and also for welcoming me to Wikipedia. I'm not sure if this goes here or back on my talk page where your message is, but either way, thanks. ^_^

I am contacting you because you have contributed to the VfD discussion on radio mast articles. I just wanted to let you know that a proposal has been put forth at Wikipedia:Deletion policy/Masts to address these articles en masse. Your comments are welcome. --TenOfAllTrades (talk/contrib) 04:33, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

expos/nationals debate[edit]

There is a major debate going on, and I wondered if you might want to chime in. The debate involves how to deal with franchise moves in baseball. The question is whether Montréal Expos should be its own article or if it should redirect to Washington Nationals. All other instances of franchise moves in MLB redirect the old team name to the new team name, and the history of the franchise is covered within the new team name (for MLB, NBA and NFL examples, see here. Some people are confused and think the Expos and the Nats are different teams. Some people don't want to upset Canadian readers.

Indeed, the Washington Nationals are not a new team - the Montreal Expos franchise has moved to Washington, and the old franchise name should redirect to the new franchise name, just like the 20+ instances of this occuring in Wikipedia. For example, Brooklyn Dodger history resides in the Los Angeles Dodgers article. New York Giants history, including the Shot Heard 'Round the World, resides in the San Francisco Giants article.

If you have the time, maybe you could chime in on the conversation there, Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Montréal Expos. Kingturtle 23:16, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Help![edit]

Hi. Trying to add my first VfD, can't seem to get it right. I tried to follow the instructions at the bottom of the VfD page, but it didn't come out right. Help please! --Cromwellt | Talk 18:10, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, it is regarding the Backstage in the greenroom page. --Cromwellt | Talk 18:12, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I got through the firs two steps just fine, but step three doesn't want to work for me. I don't know why.

Thanks a million, Meelar! I think my problem is just understanding the right way to do it. I guess I'll figure it out later, but thanks for all your help. --Cromwellt | Talk 19:10, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy-ness[edit]

Hi. Thanks for your nice words on the VfD page. I really need to bone up on the speedy delete procedures.  :^) - Lucky 6.9 23:55, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Thanks for removing my article! I rather got carried away with my first Wiki experience, and didn't take time to read the rules. Please let me know if I've overstepped the mark, as I have linked to a couple of my own websites, as they contain information pertinent to some articles I contributed. I felt they provided helpful supplementary material, but if they look like advertising or self-promotion, give me a shout!

Dave

Getting used to Wiki[edit]

Could you glance over my article on spiritual abuse? I think it is a valid topic, but perhaps it was suspect because it was too subjective. I changed the language to make it more objective, and to remove the link to my website. Again, just getting used to how Wiki works. Feedback appreciated. Thanks!

Christofascism VfD page structure[edit]

Unlike the usual chronological list, the Christofascism VfD page has been divided into separate "Delete", "Keep", and "Redirect" areas. As I said under the "Comments" header, and then on the talk page (where I should have said it the first time), I feel that by diminishing the usual give-and-take present on a VfD discussion, this page's structure makes it more difficult to reach a consensus. Might it be better to thread the existing votes into the usual VfD list? Thanks. NatusRoma 02:35, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

DC meetup - are you coming?[edit]

Meelar - I didn't realize you were in DC. Do you plan on coming to the meetup? →Raul654 13:01, May 5, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks![edit]

OMGOSH, THANK YOU! You.are.so.nice! Thanks for the welcome, I've been addicted here for a while, so I'm sure I'll be fine. But still, thanks for the 'Hey'! --Hersch 06:10, 7 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I could use your help... I've added an infobox and trivia to The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf but I'm not keen on copyrights on images.. and, you know, it needs a logo.. and yea, this sentence... disjointed. Sorry, but.. if you could? I'd be grateful. --Hersch 06:24, 7 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

What's going on?[edit]

Why did you revert my changes, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oral_sex is a legitimate article and as a heathcare professional in this field, I feel that it is important to educate anyone that would be too afraid to ask someone themselves, and not discourage them with FUD.

I see you're a political junkie too, so I thought I might ask your opinion on this article. It seems to me to need some NPOV balance... The criticism info at the bottom is sourced but seems to be mostly cheap shots and certainly isn't balanced as a whole; what do you think? I brought it to your attention mostly because I've been involved in a rather public dispute on an unrelated topic with the person who has defended the info on the SJL talk page (User:Rangerdude) and don't want to seem like I'm antagonizing him by starting to edit this one. I actually came across it on accident, being from Houston myself, but thought I'd see about getting a few more politically-interested eyes on it before I speak up myself. · Katefan0(scribble) 21:04, May 10, 2005 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the quick message... She definitely is seen as a publicity hound and it's certainly true that even those of us in the press corps enjoy poking fun at some of what she does. But she also does a lot of good for her district and is a very outspoken advocate of the people who live there. I found a bit of bio info on her and I think I might add it today. I'm not convinced that expanding the bio info is enough to counter all the information at the bottom, but it's definitely a start. Thanks again! · Katefan0(scribble) 21:35, May 10, 2005 (UTC)
    • Added some in. It's looking better, but is still 50/50 bio/"controversy" or maybe even 60/40. · Katefan0(scribble) 22:20, May 10, 2005 (UTC)

Oops! I created a page in all Caps... HELP...[edit]

I accidently created a new page with ALL CAPS....can I change it?

761st TANK BATTALION, I created another article to support this one the main one, called 761st PUC, which is just a source document (now people want to delete that one), but I created it first, then clicked on the link I made in the TITLE (re-created the source document exactly), instead of the body. Can we fix it? (and I want to keep the source document as well). It should be:> U.S. 761st Tank Battalion. WikiDon 10:35, 12 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well, it looks as though Bluemoose got there first, didn't get the "U.S." at the begining. Thanks for helping! WikiDon 19:30, 12 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • PS: Should I move it again to "U.S. 761st Tank Battalion" or just let it slide? WikiDon 20:18, 12 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Text Wrapping Around Tables[edit]

How do you get the text after a table NOT to wrap up around the right side, I just hit enter about 15 times, but there has to be a better way? WikiDon 19:30, 12 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I had already pawed through Wikipedia:How to use tables & Wikipedia:Help desk, didn't see anything. I need a Table Master...
  • Yes I have the best dogs, they get rave reviews everytime we go to the park and meet & greet. I almost lost Speck a coulpe months ago, his blood went anemic (white's killing the red's), 11-days in 2-vet hospitals, 3-normal transfusion's, massive steriods, then 1-human gamma-globulin transfussion ($1200 for 50cc)(total $8000.00), and he came back from the edge. His normal CVC should be 45 (35-55), got to 10!, 9 = death. But he is a milargro so far, keeping paws crossed. WikiDon

On this IP's user_talk page, it mentions that there was vandalism. If you are unaware, the IP is used by PurePrivacy.com. Unfortunately, it is a very public proxy and people must abuse the anonymity. I hope this information helps with fighting vandalism.

Hello[edit]

Thanks for the welcome-wagon welcome, and the signature tip. I have been rooting around in all the relevant instructional material, attempting to understand the rules in order to play by them.--Adoorajar 21:43, 12 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

That had to be the fastest copy edit in history :-) I think you were finished editing the article even before I submitted it. Gorrister 16:12, 13 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality[edit]

I was bringing attention to the point that it is just as biased to mention the sponsorship of safety in the introduction to this article (let alone the second sentence). After all, it is undeniable that the relaxed gun controls of America are directly responsible for the country's high level of violence and gun-related crime. Regards, Nova Cygni 20:01, 16 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality[edit]

It wasn't meant to "make it", it was meant to make you go "why is this article, on advocating arms proliferation, introduced with a sentence about safety?". Would you start an article about heroin with, "heroin can be quite safe when taken carefully"? The Wikipedia Project will not be a successfully unbiased collection of information if contributors gloss over patriotic misrepresentation, which is what this article is. Looking for help on a major wiki project[edit]

Hey :) I was wondering if you'd be interesting in helping out with www.Knowmore.org, a corporation search wiki we're trying to get off the ground. We could DEFINATELY use some people that know how to make a wiki community great & the site is almost a blank slate at this point. It's been heavily customized and is designed to help responsible consumers enter any product or company name and immediatly find information about that co. (the main focus of the wiki is corporate & political information in a much more specialized way then wikipedia currently offers) Let me know if you're interested! aim: knowmoreorg or bernard@knowmore.org

Hi there! I've reworded this a bit per everyone's comment, and would like to get support to make this a guideline and allow it to be used. Could you please indicate if you agree? In response to your concern of verifiability, well, it isn't always verifiable, and if it isn't, the respective user should be presumed innocent. If this isn't clear from the proposal, please add to it. Thanks, Radiant_* 12:30, May 19, 2005 (UTC)

How do I report an abuse?[edit]

Hey, Meelar. You helped me a few weeks ago, you may recall. How do I report an abuse? Someone came along and altered all my quotes from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, making silly, arbitrary changes and inserting childish references to masturbation and anal sex...!!!

Thanks![edit]

Cheers, Meelar. :)
