Cache Auto-Bypass?[edit]

Much of this has been taken directly from a number of academic sources with no real understanding, expansion of concepts or logical restructuring, the whole area of Quantum Computing needs to be written by someone who actually teaches in this field. There is so much direct plagiarism of certain topics such as explaining the mathematics of a Qubit in language that is meaningful, the whole topic needs to be reworked. Citations are missing, specific to the Qubit mathematics this article and most hyperlinks explain nothing to the broader audience Wikipedia actually serves.

The mathematical explanations likely offer little value to the layperson, and could be expressed in written English to more effect.

Yes, it is a challenging subject, but this is clearly not good enough.

The instructions for Google Chrome on OSX are incorrect. They only instruct the users to refresh not refresh to bypass cache.

Cmd + F5 for firefox on a mac?[edit]

The instructions prominently provide this and specifically for "In Firefox for Mac" but for that invokes voiceover, whereas to refresh it's ⌘ Cmd+r. If you google <firefox mac and "cmd f5"> Most of the results are for turning on voiceover. Is this maybe an artifact from long ago?--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 05:52, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wouldn't be surprised. Firefox wasn't that Mac friendly way back ( it's one of the reasons for the Chimera/Camino browser which used the Gecko engine but with better Mac style shortcuts etc. was popular back then. ) I don't have Firefox installed anymore so can't double check myself, but looks like it now is ⌘ Cmd+⇧ Shift+R to Reload (override cache). While plain reload ( which might not reset the cache ) is either ⌘ Cmd+R or F5, though many Mac keyboards these days need a fn in their also to type F5 with default settings. At least when I check Mozilla's support page (Note that page auto-detects OS and shows different shortcuts based on the OS.) PaleAqua (talk) 08:24, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Probably was supposed to be "not for Firefox on Mac". Windows/Linux has both Ctrl+F5 and Ctrl+Shift+R, while on the Mac version it is only Command+Shift+R. PaleAqua (talk) 07:48, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I would like Wikipedia to add an article under the title: Predictive Emissions Monitoring System (PEMS). The PEMS is a system that provides continuous air emissions data recording and report generation. PEMS offer cost benefits with lower capital expenditures as well as lower operational and maintenance cost than continuous emissions monitoring system (CEMS). PEMS utilize process inputs to offer continuous, real-time monitoring of source emitted pollutants such as NOx, SO2, CO, HC or diluents like O2. PEMS are generally usable for all gas- and oil-fired emission sources in lieu of CEMS.

Currently, Wikipedia lists an article titled Portable emissions measurement system which is also abbreviated as (PEMS)

The proposed/new PEMS article can be added under the Engineering category.

Add Table that summarizes methods[edit]

I would like to add a table to the "Bypassing cache" section that displays the methods in a way that (hopefully) makes it easier to identify the most universal methods. Something like this:

Improving the ability to find this page on a web search[edit]

This page contains great information, but there are barriers to someone trying to find this information on the web. Similar terms (though perhaps not identical) for bypass cache are "refresh cache" or "hard cache" (which is refreshing cache for one particular page- which is exactly what the keyboard shortcuts in this article achieve). Is it possible to put the terms "refresh cache" or "hard cache" in this article so it will come up easier in a Google search? (If wiki pages are edited for keywords, then adding these terms as keywords would be helpful as well.)

Reason for this post: I spent hours searching the web on how to refresh my cache using a Mac for a specific page using any of the popular web browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Opera. (I'm creating a website and I need to see how the pages look after I have edited changes). Though it is easy to find this information for a Windows PC (Control-F5), it is very difficult to find this for a Mac. I was searching the terms "refresh cache", "hard cache", but not the term "bypass cache". (Bypass cache is an interesting term, in that it is suggestive of "going around the cache", with the cache still existing, where to my understanding, the cache is being deleted.) Nevertheless, a very knowledgeable tech person told me how to clear the cache for a webpage for a Mac on Chrome using Cmd-Shift-R. The only way I found this wiki page was that subsequently my curiosity led me to do a Google search of "mac clearing cache in chrome Command-Shift-R".

As it happens, "bypass your cache" was a title I came up with (according to the archive, it was over a decade ago!) because people were referring to it as "clearing your cache", which is far more misleading, and led to some very muddled instructions on the page. Browser help pages often refer to it that way, labelling buttons and keyboard shortcuts as "Refresh" vs "Refresh (bypassing cache)", but I agree that "refresh your cache" could also have worked.
Anyway, I'm surprised to find that not even "hard refresh" was mentioned at all as an alternative term, so have added an "also known as" sentence into the introduction. - IMSoP (talk) 14:44, 2 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Qwerfjkl: (Old question, but...) I don't think so, as it would muddy the waters. {{purge}} bypasses Wikipedia's cache, whereas this article is about bypassing the local browser cache.
