Population[edit]

Chappaqua Notoriety[edit]

Parts of this reads like a gossip newspaper article... the murder ( only 2 in 50 years ) plus teen suicide ( only 1 or 2 in 40 years ) paint a terrible picture of a wonderful town.. the section on the pressure on students is again hearsay, and no different than any other down of fortunate, highly educated peoples—Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.80.171.200 19:58, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Murders[edit]

With regards to the murders, do you mean this part?

Although Chappaqua's crime rate is far below the national average[19], the area has had several high-profile murders. In 1996, a battle between a lottery winner and his former lover over custody of their 5-year-old child resulted in a gun battle; the winner was acquitted of the murder of his former lover on the basis of self defense, and convicted of the shooting of the woman's father.[20] In November 2006 a disbarred attorney drove the body of his severely injured wife to Northern Westchester Hospital, claiming that the couple had been ambushed and shot in nearby Millwood. She died soon after. For over a year, police expressed skepticism about the husband's account and did not rule him out as a suspect. In December 2007 the man was charged with his wife's murder after trying to collect on life insurance policies.[21][22]. Carlos Perez-Olivo was convicted October 4, 2008 for murder of his wife, Peggy Perez-Olivo, a teacher aide at Grafflin Elementary School in Chappaqua.[23]

If so, I agree. I think that at least Carlos Perez-Olivo deserves his own article, and he should just be mentioned breifly in this article with his name linking to the article about him. There is enough information about the murder for it to be it's own article, rather than to have the event summarized in an article about the town he lived in; for example, there are three references supporting what should be a mere mention of the murders committed by Carlos Perez-Olivo. Further, there is enough interest in Carlos Perez-Olivo, given that his crime is the subject of the Dateline episode entitled "A Long Dark Stretch of Road," and those interested in Carlos Perez-Olivo should be able to go to an article about him that discusses the murder, not to a page about the town they lived in. --bluegreen (talk) 23:47, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Concerns about possible vandalism[edit]

Many of the notable residents are questionable at best. About half have lived in Chappaqua, but currently dont. They should be removed as their listings are simply self serving advertisements. Would the person who has deep mental issues about their childhood in Chappaqua stop adding the sections about parents pressuring their kids... you're wildly out-of-date, and clearly don't have a handle on the town for many years. For a town with 200 years of history, the constant re-insertion of a minor and insignificant 2001 foot ball team party entry is stupid. Also, Additionally, having an reference to Dar Williams, a kind and wonderful person, but otherwise not relevant to 200 years of Chappaqua history ( or any other notable element,) is also silly and remains some author's ( Pleasantville id ? ) continued focus on making this entry tabloid like. As it happens, Dar William's father is a wonderful town historian, and so the inclusion of his daughters song inspiration in a negative manner is weird at best, if not suspicious in motivation. I would hope that since Chappaqua has 200 years of history, along with many hundreds of notable citizens, that the person who keeps inserting these entries would focus their efforts over portraying a balanced and fact based representation of the town—Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.113.157.154 12:43, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is sad that an unnamed editor appears to have a non-stop singular focus on putting minor and historically insignificant tabloid news into this submission. I don't know why some people can't use their skills to document the rich and wide history of the town. Why anyone would constantly re-submit the entries about high school drinking parties and murders ( 3 in 50 years, of which one was in Millwood, not Chappaqua ) is so sad. Sadofsky[edit]

I don't know much about the relative importance of this Sadofsky fellow, but disputes about his notability have nothing to do with his page. If there is a problem with his notability, the proper procedure is to nominate his article for deletion. If he's notable enough to have an article in Wikipedia, he is notable enough for inclusion on the list in the Chappaqua article.
