Criticisms

seems like this article was written by someone who's pissed at the changes in TLC. Although this article does seem to be biased, I agree with it completely. I used to watch TLC for science and technology... now, every time I turn ton the TLC channel, all I get is human relationship, etc... So yea, I agree completely with the article. Gotta agree with your assessment of the article. I'd go so far as to say it's non-neutral. I don't necessarily think it's biased... it's just true. It's not like the writer said "I don't like X", he accurately portrayed the nonsense this channel has been going through lately. Yes, it makes TLC look bad, but it's hard to deny that TLC went from being a place for scientific, documentary-esque media to addiction shows and programs like "Little People, Big World". BBC

I took out the specific reference to the BBC as the example given ("Junkyard Wars") is a Channel 4 program. I had a quick look at the TLC web site, but I couldn't find any actual BBC shows listed there, with the possible exception of Brum. If anyone knows of any actual BBC material that ends up on TLC, feel free to add it back. --rbrwr

TLC and all discovery networks have a well-known relationship with BBC. I'm not sure if they are owned by the same people or what, but it is certain that many BBC productions end up on discovery-owned networks. Many documentaries originate from the BBC, and some series are syndicated, adapted for, and some cases even cloned for discovery networks. Watch any discovery-owned station and you'll see many documentaries that at the end say BBC in the credits.

Just FYI:

I'm a female and I do not appreciate the changes that TLC has made to its programming over the course of the last six or seven years. I didn't mind it as much when TLC started edging towards more entertaining programming (e.g. "Trauma: Life In The E.R." and "Paramedics"), but this new-look TLC is for all intents and purposes dead to me. I can't recall the last time I watched anything on TLC, nor do I really want to. None of the baby-themed or wedding-themed programming appeals to me, nor does any of the nighttime programming, including the poor remake of the classic "What Not To Wear".

I wanted to express this just in case anyone read the original article and inferred from the "feminine" mention re: the completely revamped TLC that that automatically means it suits all females. BTW, I'm still pissed I didn't get to check out the classic, pure education version of TLC, the one that used to sponsor certain PBS programs (including "European Journal" IIRC). I'm also pissed there are no real alternatives on the non-digital tier. Krushsister 04:56, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
