Contradiction?

On February 10, 2007 Discovery Channel announced that it will not renew its sponsorship of the team at the end of the 2007 season.[1] The decison to end its sponsorship is believed to be related to the sacking of Discovery Networks president Billy Campbell by David Zaslav, the new president of Discovery Communications the same day.

On August 10, 2007, for reasons that have not been made clear, the team announced that it would cease operations at the end of the year.[2]

It says that they aren't renewing sponsorhip. So why is it reasons not made clear why they are ceasing operations? ĞavinŤing 12:45, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

The article doesn't really make it clear, but the question is to why and how a team with 8 victories in the last 9 Tours de France couldn't attract a new sponsor. SeveroTC 16:10, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:DiscoveryTeamLogo.gif

Image:DiscoveryTeamLogo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

TdF stage 9, 1999

Why is Stage 9 of the Tour de France 1999 not in the results of this page? Lance Armstrong won that stage according to 1999_Tour_de_France. effeietsanders 12:25, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Looks like just a mistake omission :) SeveroTC 12:36, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

2007 squad

Is there any way of freezing ages in that template as they were in December 2007. If not, the ages are fairly unhelpful as they read now, and will become increasingly ridiculous as the years pass. If the ages can't be shown as of 31/12/07, the section should not be in that format. Kevin McE (talk) 07:27, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Former members sections

What is the inclusion criteria for this list? If it is not fully comprehensive, there should be a verifable and non-OR basis such that inclusion/exclusion is not a matter of editors' whim. Kevin McE (talk) 07:27, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Andy Hampsten on Discovery?

A retired, first-wave American pro like the 1988 Gavia Pass boy listed here, even with "USPS team" disclaimer is silly. Discovery existed 2004-2007, 2005-2007 as a full sponsor, period. The sport is made possible by corporate sponsors such as the Discovery Channel that pay a lot of money to finance salaries, buses, bikes, hotels, etc for a specific contract period. Andy Hampsten, and many others listed here, never wore Discovery colors. It is confusing to list these USPS or other team riders here, and this page should be heavily revised. This has also been a problem with other WP pro cycling articles, such as Lance Armstrong. It's fine to note mgt. details, such as "Tailwind Sports of San Francisco" managed/owned such and such teams, and such and such rider stayed on when the sponsor name changed, but this goes too far, IMHO. Jack B108 (talk) 00:50, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Cycling teams regularly change their names, while remaining essentially the same team. For current teams, the article exists at the current name of the team: for defunct teams, it is at the last name. It would be false to say that the USPS team was a different set-up. Andy Hampsten rode for the team that eventually became known as Discovery, the team that this article is about. It is not so much the case that Tailwind owned and managed the USPS and Discovery teams, but that USPS and Discovery, in succession, sponsored and lent their name to the Tailwind team; however, WP:COMMONNAME prevents the article naming reflecting that truth. Rename?

Should the article be renamed "U.S. Postal Service Pro Cycling Team"? It existed for longer under that name, and achieved its greatest notability under that name. Warofdreams talk 13:06, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Yes. Greatest notability and greatest notoriety too, now it seems. +|||||||||||||||||||||||||+ (talk) 13:11, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
