Untitled[edit]

this reads like a typical chinese institution's description (big-noting, strange english), and is probably ripped straight from the uni website. someone should rewrite it ASAP. -- prat

It was founded in 1896 by Mr. Sheng Xuanhuai (盛宣懷). At that time, the name of the institution is Nanyang Public School (南洋公學). It is one of the oldest universities in China with more than one hundred years of history. Many famous figures in the history of China and figures of today are SJTU graduates. Of all the academicians of China's Academy of Sciences and Academy of Engineering, more than 180 are the alumni of Jiaotong University.

Communication and electronic system, naval architecture and ocean engineering, automatic control, composite materials, metal plasticity processing, and mechanical engineering are recognized as traditional strong fields of SJTU. Schools motto[edit]

Is that really a correct translation of the school motto: 饮水思源 - When drinking the water, always remember the source? sometimes it'll be better to just leave it in Chinese. And why would a Chinese motto need to be translated into English, no doubt its an English wikipedia but it wouldn't make sense to do that.

Why do you need to translate anything into English?
