My original article didn't have anything about criticisms, and should have done. I think the paragraph is definitely worthy of inclusion, and if I lived in the vicinity of one of the peaks I suspect I would be glad to see the bad side of the challenge given prominence. In accordance with Pcb21's comments I will move the criticisms to after the route description and give it its own section. I do indeed thing it deserves some prominence, so will indeed move it back to the top. The standard route stuff (which is excellent, by the way) is the kind of detail which will be read mostly by the really keen; I think the debate on the pros and cons of the challenge is significant enough that the casual reader should at least be aware of its existence. This is especially true because the rest of the article is (reasonably enough, since the challenge sounds like great fun!) extremely upbeat, and somebody not reading to the very bottom might never suspect there was a negative side.... I think the criticisms section is a bit misleading - it gives the impression of hordes of walkers crowding the mountains out night and day; I've done the challenge twice (July 1996 and August 2006) and both times encountered only a handful of other people doing the same thing66.134.170.155 (talk) 16:15, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Route[edit]

Quite a few years ago some friends of mine set the record for doing the Three Peaks by running all the way in a relay run. They did what I always thought was the traditional route of starting with one foot in the sea at Fort William and finishing with one foot in the sea at Caernarfon. When was the route shortened so that it starts and finishes at the base of each mountain? (I think they still hold the record) --jmb 00:00, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I notice this comment has been removed from the main page as "trivia". I still think it is a valid to record when the route was shortened so the runners start and finish as near to the first and last summit accessible by vehicle, if anyone knows? --jmb 18:40, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Three Peaks Challenge web site [1] says "Two schools of thought exist on how to start and finish the challenge", one touching the sea and the other from the car parks at the base of the mountains. Scafell Pike[edit]

I've changed some of the description on this section. I don't believe at all that Scafell Pike is climbed 'far less' than the other two, and the path to the top from Wasdale Head is very easy to follow, even in low cloud, as there are large cairns going all the way up by the side.Clear air turbulence 23:58, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Located[edit]

To editor Stemonitis: I doubt we would agree on "located", since you've reinstated it, but I don't feel that strongly about it. When talking about a place it seems to me a redundant word. All the best, Tony Holkham (Talk) 22:00, 14 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I may not have explained myself well in the edit summary, for which I apologise. "It is at the western end of the Grampian Mountains ..." is not a natural-sounding sentence in normal, idiomatic English. Rather, it suggests to the reader that the sentence will continue "... that [something occurred]", which is not the intended meaning. Note also that the three sections in questions are summaries of three other articles, all of which include, quite reasonably, the word "located".
