Untitled[edit]

Long Island Maine is the best place to vacation in the world! But do NOT swim in the freshwater marsh/pond, because it is filled with toxic contamination thanks to runoff from pipes that are fed by underground fuel tanks.

Contaminated Marsh[edit]

When the Navy built the underground Fuel Tanks, runoff flowed into pipes that in turn drained into the once vibrant freshwater marsh. Now, after decades of contamination, that persists to this day, this marsh is nothing short of an ecological disaster area, that Long Islanders and Town Officials would rather ignore than deal with. What a shame. Conservation area? Well, the contamination is being conserved, that's for sure. Sludge traps in the pipes are not cleaned, and the fear of reduced property values has kept this issue under the radar for long enough. A clean-up is in order.

Demographics section[edit]

The Demographics section needs to be re-written using the 2010 census data.

Removal of the Area Tanks[edit]

Though it only seems logical for a full-fledged government clean-up to take place the project as they fear that the removal of the "Area" tanks will do greater damage to the surrounding environment than if they were to keep them installed. No one swims in the dirty marsh anyway out of fear of blood-sucking leaches.

Expansion of Article[edit]

Would it be improper to expand this article to talk about the ongoing development of the Long Island Rec Department? Likewise, could we discuss the destruction of the historic Spar Restaurant and its monstrous replacement?

Additionally - it would be useful to list all businesses that operate in the town since it's not that many, even out-of-home businesses, so that there is a readily available public record. 207.237.245.171 (talk) 20:41, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
