St.Gallen City Militia Society - Urbis Militium St.Gallensis (German: St. Galler Stadt Miliz Gesellschaft [www.sgsmg.150m.com])

Upon the 1745 order of the Swiss city of St.Gallen, all Officers of the city militia where obliged to partake in serious study of military science as laid out in the "Exercitum" manual of the same year. Following this order of learning the Military Society of St. Gallen was founded as a institute of learning for the militia of the city. Military history, science and cultural and humanistic fields are covered today by the society under the term philanthropic. Membership is traditionaly only by appointment and the members understabd themselves as private scholars of their chosen fields of interest.
