9/11 organizers[edit]

Thanks for cleaning up the organizers of the September 11, 2001 attacks page! I've done some work on that page, and on all of the hijackers linked from it. If you could look through some of them and see if they need any changes, I'd be most appreciative. Thanks, Quadell (talk) (help)[[]] 23:54, Nov 25, 2004 (UTC)

The Humungous Image Tagging Project[edit]

Hi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)

finno-ugric critic[edit]

Ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion#Critic_of_Finno_Ugric_and_Uralic_language_Groups I tried to write exactly that critic into that page, but unfortunately quite engaged deleters simply delete all the information I write there. They refuse to argue, and simply delete. That's why I'd like to have this information in the wiki, but on an extra linked page. Why do you wish that, quite erroneous information without any critic in the wiki? Antifinnugor 10:03, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Administrator nomination[edit]

Hello. You're not an administrator, but I think you should be. If you want, I'll nominate you. You may reply here or on my talk page. Hope to hear from you soon, Wile E. Heresiarch 04:55, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Terrific! You can reply at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Cdc to accept the nomination. Good luck! Wile E. Heresiarch 02:28, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Congratulations![edit]

Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- Cecropia | explains it all ® 03:40, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hi Cdc, looks like your adminship vote was successful! Terrific! I'm sure you'll be a valuable asset to Wikipedia as an administrator. Regards and happy editing, Wile E. Heresiarch 21:43, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Category:Airports of Hong Kong/Macau[edit]

Hi CDC. Thanks for sharing your comment at WP:CFD. I would like to let you know that Hong Kong and Macau are special administrative regions, i.e. special territories or dependent territories, whatever you call it, of the People's Republic of China (PRC). In fact the category:Airports of the PRC is now listed on the discussion page of Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Chinese) for renaming, to follow the naming conventions.

Furthermore, many of the subcategories of category:Airports are filled with only one article or two. To name a few, category:Airports of Aruba, Austria, the Bahamas, Bahrain, Brunei, Cayman Islands, Kuwait, Singapore and Vanuatu. — Instantnood 06:52, Mar 16, 2005 (UTC)

Lawrence Reed[edit]

Hi, I was just wondering why the bio for Lawrence Reed was deemed a copyright violation? The bio is a public doc that is provided from the website www.mackinac.org...and is passed out for all speeches and events.

Thanks,

Acl

Generally, to protect Wikipedia we have to assume a cut-and-pasted document that we haven't specifically been given permission for, and isn't obviously public domain, is a copyright violation. I notice that www.mackinac.org has a copyright notice at the bottom of every page, after all. If you're sure it's a mistake, add a note to the entry on Wikipedia: Copyright problems (under March 14) to that effect; you might specifically cite how Wikipedia's use of the text fits within the terms of use on www.mackinac.org. Do keep in mind that the text will probably be changed substantially if it's posted here - that's how things work at Wikipedia - I'm no copyright expert, so I don't know if that would be a problem. CDC (talk) 05:00, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Amazingly enough, that's not a copyvio. Weird. I looked through the terms of use, and it's fully GFDL-compatable. (It's the first time I've encountered copyrighted text that was.) So now the article just needs to be wikified. . . – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) 02:59, Mar 22, 2005 (UTC)

Just wanted to ask a question[edit]

Hello, this is the author of the DEUD article, which was recently put on the consideration for deletion list. I have a few questions.

Is it against Wikipedia policy to report for informational purposes stories that have been written by authors if they have not as yet been published?

If so, should the story be submitted to Wikibooks, so that it can be considered published material on the Web? unsigned note by User:DVDGuy

Hi, thanks for getting in touch about DEUD. There may not be a specific policy that states exactly that, but in general, I suspect most people on Votes for Deletion (VfD) will agree that articles about most unpublished works are not suitable for Wikipedia. I'd suggest reading Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not to learn more - note that pages that can be interpreted as self-promotion are almost always frowned upon. I don't know anything about Wikibooks, so I can't tell you whether it would fit there; I suspect there are similar policy pages there that would be worth reading.
I recognize that getting your new page listed on Votes for Deletion is a rough introduction to Wikipedia. Please don't take it as a personal attack on you. Based on DEUD, you write very well, and I hope you'll choose to stick around. CDC (talk) 22:05, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I think your recent closure of the vfd of Outside gross area was in error. As I said I have transwikied the article, so there was no use in closing the discussion with that result. Can you either relist it or un-close the discussion, as we need a consensus as to whether is should be deleted (since transwikied), or kept and expanded. --Dmcdevit 01:35, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Why did you redirect the article to Golden Grove? Why should it be redirected to its suburb? Find some good reasons and I will permit this. Until then, the article will be reverted. Taylor 06:55, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I've looked at the voting page for this entry and I believe that Keep was the consensus (11 Keep - 1 Suspect Keep - 1 Comment - 8 Merge and Delete / Delete. Why then was this article merged? Thanks, Ian Cairns 21:52, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I kept the article, per the consensus. I then boldly merged and redirected it based on my own decision that it is better covered in Tilehurst. No consensus is needed for that, but you are free to revert my edits; I won't object in this case. I apologize, I should have made this process more clear, though the edit history does reflect it. EB2004 list[edit]

First, thanks for helping with the Encyclopedia Britannica project! There is a lot to do and we need some creative article-writing.

You removed an apparent duplicate entry in page 18. Normally, those duplicates are kept in place because they indicate EB has two entries on distinct topics with the same name, so we need two articles and a disambig before we can polish them off. The disambig (which turns the list entry blue) gets created last. However, in this particular case - well, see my annotation. David Brooks 03:19, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Song lyrics[edit]

Are copyrighted song lyrics always disallowed?

Yes, they are, unless Wikipedia has specific permission to redistribute them in compliance with our license, the GFDL; highly in this case. Even then, lyrics are not an encyclopedia article, so would probably be removed by an editor for that reason. CDC (talk) 8 July 2005 17:44 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for your concise vote on Progressive Bloggers. I'm a newbie but quickly becoming addicted, and I wasn't sure if a VFD was the right thing to do on that article. I attempted to get the author to establish notability on the talk page before I VFD'd, and when he (IMO) didn't, I semi-reluctantly put in the VFD. After the first few votes on it, I was sure I'd done something stupid and wasted everyone's time. I'm shocked that it's become the way-too-long controversy that it has, but seeing a vote with a great explanation like yours make me think maybe the VFD was warranted. Question about an entry[edit]

Hi, I was pointed over to Tasteless Ginny earlier today, and while flattered (I'm Ginny) I'm not sure an entire entry in an encyclopedia is fitting for one of their former show producers. If there's any way to merge that into the Ron and Fez category though, that'd probably be better, since that's the only show where I'm still known as "Tasteless."

Re: VfD on Warez Groups[edit]

I've left a comment to your VfD vote on the Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/List of warez groups entry, as I thought that you underestimated the impact that some of these groups make to the ongoing piracy in US and beyond. Please feel free to correct me if that is not the case. RidG (talk) 21:39, July 15, 2005 (UTC)

The bible[edit]

Firstly let me say that I am sorry to have to bother you.

Secondly, I wish to let you know that a recent VFD that you took part in has closed. The result was that 32 people voted to keep all individual bible verses as seperate articles, and 34 voted that they shouldn't (2 abstensions, and 3 votes for both). This is considered by standard policy not to be a consensus decision (although the closing admin stated that it was a consensus to keep them).

Thirdly, the subject has now been put to a survey, so that it may remain open until there is a clear consensus for what appears to be a difficult issue to resolve. You may wish to take part in this survey, and record a similar vote to the one you made at the VFD there. The survey is available at Wikipedia:Bible verses.

The Authentic Matthew VFD has closed. The results were

Benham & Froud[edit]

Cdc, I'm new to Wikipedia, so please bear with me if this is a stupid question. You were involved in the deletion of the Benham & Froud article on 08/07/2005. Does that mean it is gone for good, or does a copy survive off-line somewhere? It is a subject that I would like to have a crack at, and if a copy of the old article is available I would like to see what is considered to fall short of an acceptable article. Many thanks. Jethrotull002.

I investigated this one closely because I suspected it wasn't being taken as seriously as it should be. I've found that this was a reported incident; the Boeing from London to New York lost pressure twice on passing through 20,000 feet, and returned to London, where it was found that the front cargo door has 1-1/2 inch open, the latch cams loose but the master handle closed, and the cargo warning light unlit. It's been referred to in other, more serious investigations. I've rewritten, but the article will still be deleted without a change of vote--if you have any doubts about your vote, please change it to keep. --Tony SidawayTalk 16:37, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Government Warehouse[edit]

You may remember that I attempted to address your concerns about the original contents of Government Warehouse, that it was "unverifiable, original research", with a rewrite. Reddi (talkcontribs) has since restored the original unverifiable contents to the article, and then, when I removed them again, "in order to avoid an edit war" forked List of the Government Warehouse's contents. That latter has since been nominated for deletion, but currently there is just the one keep vote. Reddi (talkcontribs) has stated on Talk:Government Warehouse that if the latter article is deleted, xe intends to re-add the content to Government Warehouse once again. Imogiri[edit]

Greetings. I've noticed some mods on the imogiri art. Problem, Imogiri is a japanese and indonesian word, i was thinking of trying to disambig, but the problem was i dont know what the jap word/phrase meaning is.

also I was only just starting wikipedia work when i wrote the imogiri entry, and would probably go back and try a whole range of re-writes (if only I had the time) something like - sacred places and graves of java as a category, so it could utilise the places known to be in the popularly known pundhen/tempat kramat network, which has about 140 first oder sites, and then about 600 to 700 lower order localised sites. a gazzetteer maker's nightmare to say the least. i have the names, but not the time. and seeing western australia, and western tasmania are alos of interest, well then... Should have caught the name change, didn't at the time.

There is a problem, 'Organisasi Papua Merdeka' is the name of a political party; it is not the name of the movement. The people who support West Papuan independence certainly would include all members and supporters of the OPM, but would also include members of the OPM/TPN which is different, and people around the world including those inside West Papua who radically disagree with its policies and storm off to do their own thing.

The OPM was founded in 1965 and has political freedom (Merdeka) as its founding policy; of course that is an act of treason under Indonesian law which is why the OPM and flag raising ceremonies are automatically classed as an act of treason.

I know OPM/TPN looks like it's part of OPM but it is not, TPN disagreed with reframing from militant actions and was not under the control of the OPM but did want to share the same public support of the OPM so its name is OPM/TPN. After the Timika (2002) incident the TPN agreed it was too dangerous to continue its previous policies for risk of being identified as terrorist or being blamed for the Timika attack or others. It's likely the TPN was at some level involved in half the kidnappings from the 1970s to 1990s. For the OPM's part, Otto Ondawame as the OPM leader in 1977 when a kidnapping occurred travelled through the jungle to personally intervene and ensure the prisoners safety and negotiated their release. A practice which I understand all the leaders since have done. The reason is simply because self-defense is permitted under International law & UN conventions, but taking prisoners & extortion is not. Remember, diplomacy is first nature to West Papuan culture, they'd been sending representatives to UN Pacific meetings since the mid 1950s, they'd allowed the Indonesian in only because they were being escorted by the UN. The West Papuan mistake was that they did not know that the Rockefeller family had discovered the gold & copper in 1936, that the March 1959 Dutch announcement of their search for that gold had been followed in Jan 1960 with the Freeport Sulphur signing a mining agreement with the East Borneo Company to sign West Papua, and that the US lead coalition of Islamic nations at the UN demanding afresh that the administration of West Papua be transfered to Indonesia was started the day after UN Sec. General Dag Hammarskjold had been killed.

Anyway, my point was that in West Papuan cultures they expect diplomacy and dialogue to work, for them warfare is only ever used as a means of punishment. It's just a great shame that Standard Oil had ever found that gold and copper deposit.211.30.95.182 07:59, 19 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pak Harto and Ibu Tien dan lain lain[edit]

Yup. Very slow about getting the Imogiri and Sacred Sites of Java entries to where I would like them, and then I read the Pak Harto entry and see red! Ibu Tien and children deserve separate entries, and the amount of work needed is not what I have time for at the moment... As for the point about reading like a politics 101 essay, it could be anywhere - there is my argument with the economists and political science people when it comes to Java - living 'inside' at the time of Ibu Tien's death, there was a lot simply to that event which reflects a lot about the culture and nation at that time. Oh well that now makes my dream list of hard to put up articles to about 20, oh well some time in 06 maybe!vcxlor 01:31, 28 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please follow these instructions if you come across this type of copyvio. Thanks. --nixie 00:30, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Blatant copyright infringements may now be "speedied"

If an article and all its revisions are unquestionably copied from the website of a commercial content provider and there is no assertion of permission, ownership or fair use and none seems likely, and the article is less than 48 hours old, it may be speedily deleted. See CSD A8 for full conditions.

After notifying the uploading editor by using wording similar to:

{{nothanks-sd|pg=page name|url=url of source}} -- ~~~~

Blank the page and replace the text with

{{db-copyvio|url=url of source}}

to the article in question, leaving the content visible. An administrator will examine the article and decide whether to speedily delete it or not.
