This isn't history, it's current events. How about some of the thousand-plus years of Libya's history? -- isis 12:39 Sep 29, 2002 (UTC)

Could somebody please explain to me how Frederic the Catholic of Spain could have given the knights control of Libya in 1528, if (according to the link) he died in 1516?

Oop! That was my gaffe, back in Sept. 2003. Good call. It was his heir, Charles V. The Knights of St John were based in Malta. Columbia Encyclopedia: "Captured in 1510 by the Spanish, Tripoli was granted (1528) to the Knights of St. John, who held it until 1551, when it was taken by the Ottoman Turks." Following their expulsion from Rhodes, "After seven years in limbo, Villiers obtained permission to locate the order in Malta from Emperor Charles V in exchange for the annual gift of a falcon and their obligation to defend Tripoli (in Libya) from the Muslims." acc. to this amateur website. What about Omar Mukhtar?[edit]

Shoudn't Omar Mukhtar at least get a mention in this page somewhere ? The Italian Colony section is where it should go, but I'm not sure where to put it in without ruining the current section. ---Mpatel (talk) 11:31, 13 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Gaps[edit]

This page skips from 730 B.C. to the Muslim period. Antiquity is ignored. I.e., the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Macedonians, Ptolemaic Greeks, Romans, Vandals, and Byzantine are ignored. (1400 years!). (comment by User:Ezsober moved from article)

1937 civil war[edit]

Yesterday, Saif al-Islam Muammer al-Gaddafi warned of a return to the civil war of 1937 in his rambling attempt to end the 2011 Libyan protests. This page doesn't mention anything about such a civil war. Did anything in fact happen in 1937? The Library of Congress country study doesn't mention anything either. Did you also add "" to mark the text? It might be best to remove the material all together. You could copy it here to the talk page with the source and ask someone to please paraphrase it before moving it back to the main page. Aschuet1 (talk) 17:01, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Removed Plagiarized Paragraph[edit]

In the section "Kingdom" I noticed there was a quote that was directly plagiarized from a source, and I removed it. If there is someone who would like to paraphrase that information and add back in that would be great. However, the source that it originally came from did not seem credible to me, so if you are looking to add in that information again I would find a more reliable source to cite.
