history?[edit]

How old is this concept? The way Tate writes about it in his thesis (1950?) suggests that the concept was not widely known then. Dmharvey 00:14, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

examples?[edit]

There are the adèles and the idèles; are there any other useful examples? If not, I think the introduction should be reworded. I hope there /are/ other useful examples - that would be interesting. 209.252.104.131 (talk) 17:15, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

yes, you can for example take the general linear group over local fields, and then a restricted product over these, although that is still very "adelic". Konrad (talk) 17:32, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

similarity to direct sum[edit]

since direct sum has all but finitely many equal to to the appropriate "0" and this has all but finitely many inside the appropriate proper subsets, this should be pointed out in article and direct sum linked. Also, the category theory way of definingdirect sum and restricted product must surely be very close.RichPeterson171.67.200.118 (talk) 23:38, 17 February 2013 (UTC)76.218.104.120 (talk) 08:39, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
