Gods[edit]

I'm just wondering the use of the word "god" or "goddess" in this article and related ones - on one hand, it says that the Inuit "did not have gods, although one often sees names from Inuit mythic traditions called gods in non-Inuit media", but on the other hand, the "Inuit mythology" template at the bottom of the page lists "gods" and "goddesses", and most of the articles linked there also talk talk about "Inuit gods" and "Inuit goddesses".

So I'm just curious now - is the statement that the Inuit "did not have gods" false (or, at the very least, original research)? Or is the designation of the various entities listed in the template as "gods" and "goddesses" false (or at least misleading)? If the statement made is not false and if the word "god" is mostly just one applied by westerners trying to understand or describe Inuit mythology, the template and the other articles should probably be updated to include notices on the terminology and be more precise. -Schneelocke 13:21, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I feel like the articles linked to in the Inuit mythology template at the bottom of the page are all extremely problematic. As you point out, they contradict the thrust of this article, but also almost none of them have any references, and they're almost all very short stubs. Qalluna?[edit]

In the opera Tornrak people die from "Qalluna's sickness" Qallunaa aaniarninganut in Inuktitut. Is that a reference to a deity or spirit we could mention here? Or could it just be someone's name?--Peter cohen (talk)

Innu != Inuit[edit]

Hello there, You have included information which is not Inuit mythology but rather Innu mythology. The Innu (Also known as Naskapi-Montagnais Indians), are a seperate and different group from the Inuit. Its wonderful that this story has been mentioned but it belongs somewhere else.
