Aksara Sunda[edit]

Sundanese has a non-Latin alphabet which is taught in the schools. This should be added to the article. Evertype 17:39, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Our article on the Javanese script is abysmal, and there doesn't appear to be any Unicode support. It looks like we're a few steps away from much useful information to add here. --Gareth Hughes 18:34, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yayat Sudaryat[edit]

The page has an in-line reference "according to.Yayat Sudaryat (1991,35)", but there is no corresponding citation anywhere. That is almost certainly this person, but there is no mention of "1991" on the page, and as I don't read Indonesian I can't search the site for a citation. ɨ or ɤ?[edit]

The article uses Muller-Gotama (2001) /ɨ/ for the digraph ⟨eu⟩ while Hardjadibrata (1985) mentioned that it represented /ɤ/. I speak Sundanese and my ⟨eu⟩ sounds more like /ɤ/ while a Sundanese person I know speaks it like /ɨ/. Should we mention both? RXerself (talk) 06:26, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@RXerself: Hadeu, the high-ish back-central vowel space is a muddy terrain. We have a similar discussion in Talk:Ilocano language#Is the sixth Ilocano vowel a schwa ə or close back unrounded vowel ɯ?, and User:Sol505000 can cite more examples. The best approach is probably to say that there are several approaches (+ citations) in transcribing the Sundanese "long pepet". –Austronesier (talk) 11:46, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What kind of examples would you like to see? I'm not sure if I'd be of much help here. EDIT: See this paper. Estonian also has a highly variably vowel that is most often transcribed with ⟨ɤ⟩. Sol505000 (talk) 11:49, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
