A lack of information?

Does anybody else think we should maybe have a little more information here? I do my best but I don't know an awful lot of history about the club as i'm only 20years old! Perhaps something about the ongoing dispute about what league we should play in (given the ongoing whinging from scottish clubs about them not being allowed to join the english system) Any suggestions? --Murfilicious 14:23, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

I agree, there should certainly be more information on the 2nd placed finish in the old (old) first division, as I believe it was one of the closest title finishes ever.

Sheepshaggers and Sheepmunchers

Are these self-given names or inappropriate nicknames from rivals, and if the latter, do they really have a place in Wikipedia?

Rivalry

I recently posted some information about rivalry between Cardiff City and Swansea City supporters. Could someone please read over it and make sure this is suitable for Wikipedia. The part about Lee Trundle brandishing a flag with anti-cardiff city remarks on it could possibly be offensive ("FUCK OFF CARDIFF") so perhaps an administrater could check what ive wrote just to make sure. Is there any evidence she's a fan? I've lived in Cardiff all my life, never seen her at a game - never heard or read one public utterance about City.

Should that be removed until substantiated - and indeed, should the other celeb fans be checked out too?

As for the others I can say that Neil Kinnock, Super Furry Animals, Gareth Thomas, Matthew Pritchard, Dannie Abse, Gavin Willliams, Aaron Davies, Stanley Baker, David Sullivan, Ken Follett, Roald Dahl and David Davies are definate city fans and I can provide refs on all of them. European section

Tidied it up to remove typos. The examples given, used to support Cardiff's case - is it possible to further expand and clarify the situation? As far as I can tell, Monaco, for example, can play as French representative as which there is a Monaco FA, there isn't a domestic league - same situation for Lichtenstein. Well although Monaco and Lichtenstein dont have their own leagues I dont see how their situation is any different from ours in that a team from another country is trying to qualify for Europe, not to mention the fact that the League of Wales only came into existence in 1992. There are other clubs as well such as Wellington Phoenix, Toronto FC and even Berwick Rangers who have their own domesitc league but I only added the section quickly as, judging by a few edits in recent months, this seems to be a hot topic at the moment. Yes, it's definitely a hot topic. The reason I cited Monaco and Lichtenstein was simply because they aren't the same as our precise situation. As far as I'm aware, the issue with City re Europe came to a head around 1992, which implies the problem is because there's now an established Welsh league. It would need a bit more research to establish if that's the full case with regards to us, Swansea et al. Either way, the section would appear to be in flux until the full decision is made by Eufa due to the fact there's no absolute definition that can be referred to in the section. It seems the entire issue in real life is clouded in fog to the extent that the section can't necessarily cite accurately. I'm new to wiki, is there some kind of tag that can be placed upon the section to reflect that? Minkythecat (talk) 11:53, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

It's come to an end now anyway so it doesnt matter. The FA have finally accepted that they effectivley have no say in the matter as we would have played in Europe regardless of their decision. I will probably remove most of that european ban section now, perhaps keep a paragraph or two just to have some minor info on the subject but its not really needed anymore. Club crest for next year

Next season the club will be reverting to the previous badge that was used before Sam Hammam changed it to what it is at the moment. Just thought it would be a good idea for us to try and find a free image of the badge in preparation for the next season. Possible New Sections

I would like to suggest that a sub-section in the article contains a fuller detail of Cardiff City's European games. There is very little mention in the article of matches such as the Semi-Final of the Cup Winners Cup, and the tie against Real Madrid. It also is a nice link as currently there appears to be just nothing in the article that happened between 1930 & 1985.

I believe there should also be a sub-section on this year's cup run. This season will go down as one of the most important in the history of the club.

One final point regarding Notable Fans, I believe Craig Bellamy should be included. There are many news references to him over various points in time that he infrequently trains with the CCFC First Team Squad ( when returning from injury or an international coming up), and whenever he is unable to play he is usually spotted going into the ground at Cardiff City home games. 86.133.28.192 (talk) 14:19, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

I agree the main article does need to be filled in more. I do plan to do it in the future but it took me much longer than anticipated to complete the List of Cardiff City F.C. players as well as the effort to create articles on seasons, records, current season etc and expand all the players articles that I am easing off editing for a while and just watching articles for vandalism and sloppy edits while I take a break. Third Strip

If you mean the template with the yellow on the shoulders and sides then that is just the away kit. I dont really know how to change the templates so all I have managed to do with them is change the colour so thats why they look different from the cup final page to this page. It looks good. The shirt and shorts are correct. The only thing I can see is the socks need a yellow band across the top, if thats possible?. There are some pics here of the whole kit.

Debt

The section mentioning the debt is unclear. First it states that the club was £40 million in debt, most of which has been cleared. A few lines later it mentions that the club is £30 million in debt (which is denied). Can this be cleared up? Greenman (talk) 09:11, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Joining the Football League

Cardiff City Managers

The manager listing is wrong, because it has been drawn from Soccerbase, whose database has a problem - for example, Phil Neal is listed here as only being manager for two days (and had no games played under his stewardship), when he was in charge for quite a bit longer! Aaron Wildig

Notable players section

Does anyone have any objections to the removal of at least the 100 appearances and other sections? Both sections contain just a handful of players who have achieved either 100 appearances or gained an international cap at the club and the information is already covered in the List of Cardiff City F.C. players and List of Cardiff City F.C. internationals. Not to mention that the presence of the sections leads to large numbers of IP users adding players who they think are notable. Kosack (talk) 19:32, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

No objections from me. The list really needs to be players known for either longevity with Cardiff, ie Phil Dwyer or achievements whilst at City they were notable for. An example of someone who should not be there would be say Aaron Ramsey - didn't have any notable achievements with City, played what, 22 times? Great young player, bags of ptential, but I'd say not somebody necessarily notable for contributions to CCFC. Equally, what standard guidelines does the wikisoccer project urge? The general consensus, from discussions like Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 29#Notable players sections, seems to favour keeping notable player lists to pages such as List of XXXXX F.C. players but there are no solid guidelines really on these kind of sections. My main problem with them is that barely 20% of players who have appeared more than 100 times or gained an international cap at the club are listed and listing them all would be ridiculous as, just after a quick count, there are over 180 players who have achieved either of those requirements. Squad table format

A discussion is being held here on the possibility of rolling out a new squad template. The new template, named {{football squad player2}}, differs from the standard squad layout in several ways:

• It features a sort function
• Comes in a single column format that can be understood by screen readers.
  • Single column format ensures that low resolution browsers, including mobile devices, do not get part or all of the second column cut off.
  • Single column format ensures less clutter, particularly at lower resolutions, for wide sections such as the Arsenal loan section.
• It gives nationality its own column; at present flags are featured in a blank, untitled column
• It complies with Wikipedia's guidance on flag usage.
• It leaves enough space to add images of current players, an example of which can be seen at Watford F.C#Current squad.

It is proposed that the new template be added to some of Wikipedia's most high-profile club articles, which might include Cardiff City F.C.. To give your thoughts, please read and contribute to the discussion at WikiProject Football.

Away kit

Hello, I just made a small change to the away colours section where it stated that Cardiff wore the St David flag strip during the 99-00 season. I believe it was actually the 2003-04 season, as Cardiff were still sponsored by Modplan back in 99 and I think the away shirt was yellow.

He is listed in the squad, however he does not have his own page as he would currently fail the notability guidelines at both WP:NFOOTBALL and WP:GNG until he actually plays for the club. GiantSnowman has a potential article saved within his draftspace HERE should Meite qualify for his own page in the future. Thanks for taking the time to review the page, I've expanded the red shirt change section a bit further. The South Wales Amateur League page states that it was founded in 1946, which is much later than Cardiff played in a league under that name so I think they're different competitions that used the same name. I've added a few extra names into the opening sections and a brief paragraph on the Soul Crew as well. The main copyvio clash is a definite copy of the Wikipedia page. The other two over 20% are mainly due to a clash of innocuous phrases, the first includes "the only goal of the game", "the end of the season" and "would go on to win the" which are fairly standard footballing terms. The other clashes as it lists the club's honours so the names of the trophies are highlighted due to their naming. I hope those are acceptable. Kosack (talk) 19:26, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

Semi Protection Edit Permissions suggestion

Because It's now Considered as a "Good Article" Why not add the Semi-Protection Edit Permissions

The article receives the typical amount of vandalism that can be expected on a football club page but nothing excessive. Wikipedia is open-format and designed to be edited by anyone so protecting the page for no reason is unnecessary and against the basic principles of the site. Emiliano Sala

Considering the nature of the news, and devastating revelation that police have called of the search, I understand people are very keen to get edits in regarding him. However, out of respect for the club, the fans, the player and his family, I don't think we should make any quick decisions regarding removing him as a player, or making rash edits on his Wikipedia article, until the necessary parties have released official statements. I'm not going to request protecting the article but maybe putting a header explaining that this article is affected by a recent event may be the right move? I'm inclined to agree with you, the end of any search doesn't really change anything right now as he's still classed as missing either way until any sort of official statement is made. New stadium - contradiction?

Hi all just a query about these lines in the history section:

The club experienced increasing financial difficulties over the next few years and plans for a new stadium failed to gain approval from Cardiff Council because of concerns over financial security in 2006. Hammam then agreed to a takeover by a consortium led by new chairman Peter Ridsdale and the lead developer of the new stadium, Paul Guy.

The first sentence says the plans were rejected, but then the next talks about the new stadium having a lead developer; and as we know, the stadium was eventually built. Perhaps there's something missing here? I'm curious how this topic should be dealt with, as the outline history of the statium probably belongs in the history section, but there's also a dedicated section for stadia, and I'm looking to write similar prose in the Coventry City F.C. article...
