Discussion[edit]

UTD Student/Wiki reader here. I think this article should be merged with University_of_Texas_at_Dallas. No way does Waterview Park need its own article, plus it would be better to have a central place for information relating to UTD, housing, etc. 68.92.54.163 19:10, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Things to add[edit]

Here are some things I'd like to see added, but don't have specifics or supporting evidence off hand (and despite my personal hatred of Waterview, I want to follow Waterview's NPOV policy):

  • Sometime during the 2003--2004 school year the big screen TV from the Phase VIII club house was stolen
  • Sometime during the 2003--2004 school year the Phase VIII pool was filled with bubble bath
  • Waterview frequently schedules loud parties and events at Phase VIII during the week before final exams begin
  • Many apartments are infested with roaches (we find roaches crawling around in our silverware drawers, laying dead on our plates and in our cups, and crawling into our power outlets, dish washer, and sinks)
  • Waterview regularly reports they couldn't service apartments because their key didn't work (despite working fine when asked to demonstrate it) -- they've re-keyed our door once and made three copies of our door key in a year
  • The trash bins frequently overflow in all of the apartments
  • Rent is over $900/month for a two bedroom apartment, while comparable apartments in the area cost only $700/month
  • Waterview has raised rent every year for the past few years and expects to continue to do so
  • There's a police blotter that lists certain complaints the university's police respond to (but not all, for example they never mentioned the rape incident described by the Dallas Observer article)
  • Calling Waterview with questions about service frequently results in the excuse "they're out to lunch, we'll have them contact you when they get back" regardless the time of day.
  • Instead of spending money on repairmen and maintenance workers that actually do something, Waterview recently purchased several Playstation portables, games, and a library of DVDs for their residents to borrow
  • Waterview issues fines for things not included in your lease without warning
  • Everyone tries to put the blame on someone else who's conveniently unavailable
  • You need to raise at least two or three complaints before they actually respond to you
  • They didn't replace the lightbulb in our hallway for the first two months after we moved in (so we couldn't see our door at all at night) until we threatened legal action
  • Our dishwasher works awfully, and our washing machine was broken for the first three months we were there
  • UTD has an attorney that is free for counsel to students, but they're not allowed to ask about Waterview

That's all for now. 192.160.6.253 22:12, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I disagree that this should be added to the main article. Some of these complaints are rather obvious and do not make Waterview a bad place to live. For example, charging a high rent is their right. Vandalism, such as theft of the TV or filling the pool with bubbles, is entirely out of their control too. Most of your other complaints should be filed with www.waterviewsux.com. --Cluster 22:02, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
