I find this page very frustrating — there are a lot of fascinating aspects of Michif that this article covers well (unique synthesis of two languages, separate lexical systems, vital role within Métis culture, etc.), but all the mundane content needed to make this a well-rounded article is missing (grammar, vowel/consonant chart, map/list of present speakers, orthography etc.). For example, it currently says: “Michif word order is basically that of Cree (relatively free)” — this should be a parenthesis to a larger paragraph explaining how Michif word order works. This article is not a combination of French language and Cree language, it is a separate language. There should be many paragraphs explaining how Michif relates (or doesn’t relate) verbs to nouns, shows case, tense, aspect, mood, gendre, speaker, number, etc. There is some really good stuff here, now it just has to be fleshed out with the language particulars we see on similar pages in Wikipedia. 1. Is there not also a Salteaux dialect of Michif?
2. My only acquaintance with the Michif language and Michif French is from the television show La Voix des Mechif. I've noticed that some of the French speakers on the show have what seem to be English accents -- do you know if this is a regional characteristic? The narrator also commonly uses the constructions "de les" and "à les" where "des" and "aux" would be correct; is this typical? Other people on the show use "des" and "aux". Jfitzg

Saulteaux is maybe a different spelling of Salteaux?
Saulteaux is a dialect of Ojibwa. Michif is a mixture of Cree and French.
Both Ojibwa and Cree are Algonquian languages.

Google gave me 69,000 hits for Saulteaux and 850 for Salteaux, so I'd think it's Salteaux which is the variant spelling of Saulteaux. John FitzGerald 14:45, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Help me out here, folks. Under the heading "Morphology," the only text is the three-word phrase "i likes dirts". Is this supposed to be an example, somehow, of Michif morphology, or is someone just playing games? F117-A 09:52, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Folks, I'd like to add a lot to this page. (I've done a lot of the original research, but I'm not good at the HTML, so I spend inordinate amounts of time trying to make the tables come out right.) I'll try to get some verb paradigms put up in the next month or so. -- Rich Rhodes, aka Miiknaans, June 5, 2008

I'm going to add French to the tables, seeing as how it will be nice for those who don't speak it . Some one with knowledge of michif phonology could add IPA ave matthew at ace ma'noya (talk) 03:21, 15 June 2008 (UTC) (Manitoba)[reply]
