Gay Icon Project[edit]

In my effort to merge the now-deleted list from the article Gay icon to the Gay icons category, I have added this page to the category. I engaged in this effort as a "human script", adding everyone from the list to the category, bypassing the fact-checking stage. That is what I am relying on you to do. Please check the article Gay icon and make a judgment as to whether this person or group fits the category. By distributing this task from the regular editors of one article to the regular editors of several articles, I believe that the task of fact-checking this information can be expedited. Thank you very much. Philwelch 21:46, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Date of birth[edit]

Does anyone have a reliable source for the date of birth. I do not trust this edit. It appears to be an attempt by someone at Encyclopædia Britannica to discredit Wikipedia and was made along with a series of vandalistic edits like this one. Angela. 10:36, August 23, 2005 (UTC)

The standard that I've always noticed and abided by on Wikipedia has been to use the IMDb dates of birth and death. IMDb lists her as 1933 (the reason behind me earlier edit to 1933). Sahasrahla 14:32, August 23, 2005 (UTC)
I'd trust Wikipedia more than I'd trust the IMDb. Their infosource page explains that a lot of the information is user-submitted. If information there is wrong, it is much harder than on Wikipedia for readers to correct it. It's possible that most of the Internet sources stating 1933 as the year of birth have got that information from Wikipedia and/or IMDb. MSN, the Biography Channel, and the New York Times all say 1935. Angela. 18:33, August 23, 2005 (UTC)
California birth index says 16 Aug 1933.[1] --Fallout boy 08:07, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Measurements?[edit]

Is there any reason to suppose that her stated measurements--those of a fit young woman--are remotely accurate now, given that she is 70? (At the very least, most people lose height.) Is there even a reason to mention these? This aims to be an encyclopedia, not a pinup calendar. I notice that Alec Guinness and John Wayne--two other distinguished actors--do not have their measurements given.

Although I don't normally take the side of people who objectify women based on their measurements, even I have to admit that her rather striking physique was a major part of her appeal (and might still be). Besides, her obvious sense of humor always complemented her physical attributes. Anyway, I wouldn't object if her "vital stats" (perhaps in the context of "at the time she portrayed Catwoman" or whatever) were put back in. By the way, I've read that the lady was 5'11", not 5'10". Definitely someone I would look up to. ;) -- Lorrette 00:03, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey---John Wayne's measurements did matter. Wayne's being 6'3" became a "character trait" for him-- I'd like to see her "Batmsn" performances to see Her use her height and dance background in such An exaggerated show. Jonhendryj (talk) 15:47, 25 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Photo[edit]

Shouldn't the photo be more representative of the reason for a person's notability (eg. their career) rather than just the newest image we could find? The current photo is pretty gross. What next -- will we use this one for Paul Newman? --Doradus (talk) 23:29, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gross? What do you mean? The picture is just fine and portrays the actress well. Also, I think using that photo for Paul Newman is a great idea. Thanks for suggesting it, P3d0. --James599 (talk) 21:22, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, the picture should be from a time representing the actress' notability not just the newest one.71.190.182.22 (talk) 04:45, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I also agree; the photo is startling and not representative of Newmar's career. Even the lower one of her current appearance is better - her expression is less severe and bizarre. 141.155.135.27 (talk) 19:39, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with the sentiments. Can anyone find one? Sincerely Subzerosmokerain (talk) 02:51, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

¶ I would suggest a photo from the height of her cinema/TV career, an image more readily recognized and more relevant. But also, I'd like some comment on her distinctive diction, which seemed very precise but not effortless; it was particularly appropriate for her role on My Living Doll, but it clearly stayed with her throughout her career. Sussmanbern (talk) 06:32, 6 February 2012 (UTC) And WHEN did Mugler make her his catwalk icon?? Sussmanbern (talk) 06:37, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ohhh, Julie! This is a terrible, terrible photo! Whoever put it up there should hang their head and leave the room, all you are doing is disrespecting a great woman. Shame, Wikipedia, shame! Chalchiuhtlatonal (talk) 16:18, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that having such a recent photo is both unnecessary and misleading. I'm changing it to something from the peak of her career. Buck Mulligan (talk) 15:11, 9 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Enter Laughing[edit]

Julie Newmar's appearance in the Film, Enter Laughing, written and directed by Carl Reiner is not mentioned. She is not credited in the film on IMDB. It was from 1967. 104.184.208.119 (talk) 02:09, 17 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a reliable source stating this? If so, we (or you) can add it. TJRC (talk) 20:03, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

May 20, 2023, Julie appeared on CBS Saturday Morning.[edit]
