Winny the Pooh[edit]

Don't forget that Winny the Pooh was written, in part, in Porter County, Indiana, after Beatrix Potter moved there from the UK. --Wloveral (talk) 23:51, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Winnie the Pooh was not written by Beatrix Potter, but by A. A. Milne. Omnedon (talk) 00:33, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oops. My built-in google is now 60 years past reading those books. Sorry. You are so right, but growing up in LaPorte, Indiana, we kids were told that Winnie the Pooh was in the next county over.--Wloveral (talk) 01:47, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Restructuring[edit]

I'm proposing to remove the cemetery listing and replace it with a short summary and using the deadlink I added to have the detailed listings for the cemeteries. This will still provide the list, but remove it from the details in the county article.(Chris Light (talk) 16:54, 4 May 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Cemeteries[edit]

The section says that the earliest cemetery in Porter County was Bailly is not true. Maplewood, next to Graceland in Valparaiso, has burials from the 1700s and Bailly was not started until the 1800s. RainbowOfLight Talk 06:27, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Main image[edit]

Wow, no one has been here in 10 years, but anyways I propose changing the infobox image to this one on the right. As Indiana Dunes is a very popular destination in the Midwest, I find it suitable to be used as the main photo, offering a change of scenery from the repetitive series of county courthouses.

The lede image should identify the subject of the article. The only image I can think of that does that is the county courthouse image. The dunes are a feature of the country, but not a huge one. The industrial area immediately adjacent to the dunes is just as impactful. Porter also shares the NP with Lake and Laporte counties. Porter county is likely the most hevely agricultural county in Metro Chicagoland. Most of it is far from the beach, industry, and far more tied to Valparaiso than the beach. Many people will commonly associate this area more with Indiana Dunes State Park (I know as I live in Chicagoland) than its industrial areas. You can argue that since industry takes up a large part of Hudson County in New Jersey, same thing can be applied to that article, but the Hudson waterfront is more iconic. I get it, the beach is not exactly representative of the county, so maybe add a montage with like 3 images showing something more than a repetitious courthouse? -Ikon21 (talk) 17:45, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
