Bird[edit]

Oh, a chocobo is a bird! Now it all makes sense! Ah, the wonderfully useful things one learns on the Wikipedia... :) -- Oliver PEREIRA 13:11 Jan 20, 2003 (UTC)

Failed GA[edit]

Unfortunately, I have to fail this good article nomination. Reasons include:

  • Images lack fair use rationales.
  • Template:Vgrelease should be used for release dates instead of flags. See the Final Fantasy VII article for an example of how it's used.
  • The story section should come before the gameplay section.
  • merge in soundtrack article.
  • The images also lack detailed source information, such as where the images were obtained.
  • You should be more specific about the type of controller the game uses (a DualShock controller, not simply a "game controller").
  • The lists (courses, main characters etc.) should be converted to prose and summarized. At the moment, they're too detailed. Also format music section.
  • Provide some quotes of press reviews.
  • There's no section on the development of the game.
  • The article shows a strong need for copyediting, with many redundant words and several grammatical errors (such as the sentence, "and Mog is surprised to discover that the Magicite he'd zealously pursued was in his possession the entire time", where he'd should "he had", and the multiple use of he causes confusion when placed in with the previous and next sentences.) I'd recommend trying to get someone from the League of Copyeditors to help, or a user you know with good copyediting skills.
  • I'd recommend that you look at this guide on how to improve your prose so that you can improve the prose yourself. As well, if you haven't already, I'd look at Wikipedia:What is a good article? for the GA criteria, because it looks like you simply nominated the article without polishing it up first. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me on my talk page. Regards, Green451 17:24, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
IMHO, gameplay information should generally be mentioned before plot/story information. --Stratadrake 04:20, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'll go along with that. Now that I think about it, for a game like this where the gameplay is more important or complex than the story, the gameplay section should come first. Green451 16:01, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just as a note, "Merge in soundtrack" and "Also format music section" were added in by Judgesurreal, not by me. Green451 16:08, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I thought it would be silly to create a whole to do box when I could just make the GA review into a to do box :) Judgesurreal777 23:12, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On hold[edit]

All of the past concerns have been met, but I would like the lead with a few more citations, particularly on this line: "The game received mixed reviews." Thanks! Greeves (talk contribs reviews) 00:38, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but I had to wait two days before passing this. Passed!! Greeves (talk contribs reviews) 00:42, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review[edit]

I have reviewed this article in accordance with the Good Article (GA) criteria. There are seven main criteria that the article must comply with to pass:

  1. Well-written: Pass
  2. Factually accurate: Pass
  3. Broad: Pass
  4. Neutrally written: Pass
  5. Stable: Pass
  6. Well-referenced: Pass
  7. Images: Pass

In my opinion for this GA Review, this article has passed all the necessary GA criteria categories. If no one has a problem with this, I will award it GA status in a few days. Please give me your feedback/comments/complaints (if any), so we can improve on this article if needed. INFORMATION CENTER (TC) 03:25, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It only takes one reviewer and I have reviewed it above. It was nominated, so I put it on hold until my problems with it were solved, which they were. Greeves (talk contribs reviews) 22:11, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You did not put your name in the reviews list, so I reviewed this article. In the future, please out your name in the Wikipedia:Good article candidates list so others know that you are reviewing that page. Therefore I am officially passing this article. I will update the list myself. INFORMATION CENTER (TC) 01:01, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Future improvements / To-do[edit]

What are there? The recent GA nomination seems to have triggered my habit for bold edits. Having not had much time recently to simply sit down and significantly work on any one article in a long time, some of the things I notice:

  • Proselists. Similar to proseline, these are lists which were merged together into grammatically correct prose, but without any re-thinking, restructuring, or summarizing. In other words, they still read off like lists because each 'item' follows a repeating pattern, which distracts and contrasts with prose in the rest of the article.
  • Integrated trivia: Information should be represented according to its importance to the article as a whole. Details of minimal or zero importance (such as the names of the character's vehicles) deserve equally minimal (or zero) space for mention in the article, since Wikipedia is not a collection of miscellaneous factoids, and just because something is factually accurate does not automatically make it important to the article. Culling trivial information in favor of summarized info, referenced info, or anything else of clearly higher importance does not affect whether or not the article passes GA criteria (except for article stability, in extreme cases of edit warring), and arguably improves the quality of the article in its own accord.
  • Characters section: Aside from Bahamut and Squall, the additional eight hidden characters are of trivial importance. They are interesting, yes, but their impact on the game is minimal. They don't come with additional courses, unique abilities, or even a icon like the other racers do. They are bonuses hidden for the player to discover (remember, they can only be selected by highlighting Squall and holding down the shoulder-buttons in combination), and Wikipedia is not GameFAQs.
  • Soundtrack section needs restructuring to flow with the rest of the article -- it still reads like the separate article it originally was. Among other things, it has the highlighted phrase and infobox associated with the lead section of an article, which it no longer is.
  • More information needs to be summarized. Is a complete game control breakdown really necessary? Almost all "formulaic kart racers" feature gas pedal/brake/power-slide/mini-turbo mechanics, the fact that this game has them is of low importance, ergo it should be rewritten and summarized.

GA delist[edit]

In order to uphold the quality of Wikipedia:Good articles, all articles listed as Good articles are being reviewed against the GA criteria as part of the GA project quality task force. While all the hard work that has gone into this article is appreciated, unfortunately, as of December 4, 2007, this article fails to satisfy the criteria, as detailed below. For that reason, the article has been delisted from WP:GA. However, if improvements are made bringing the article up to standards, the article may be nominated at WP:GAN. If you feel this decision has been made in error, you may seek remediation at WP:GAR.
Key problem: no sources at all for any of the gameplay. The amount of sourcing that would be needed to improve this are pretty immense, but I'm sure it could be done and be resubmitted for GA. David Fuchs (talk) 01:09, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any more reception information? dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 10:41, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GAN on hold[edit]

  • "While racing as any character," - not really necessary, just say what they can do
  • "After defeating Behemoth in a race" - change "after" to "upon" - you've overused "after" a bit...
  • "fill out the cast" - this implies that it ONLY contains FF characters. is that the case?
  • "throughout each course which the player can pick up by driving through them" - kinda sounds like you can pick up the course...how about "throughout each course, and can be picked up by the player by driving through them"
  • "player skids too sharply, however, the player's..." - try and use a different word
  • "when all eight pieces are brought together again." [18] - rmv the space here
  • First of all, I still think you could add a bit more reception info. There's currently a bit of whitespace there to fill in. Eg "It was rated as "Not Worth It" on 1UP.coms Final Fantasy Retro Roundup due to its difficult steering." - did they say anything good about it? Etc.
  • "Almost all of the tracks are remixes of music Nobuo Uematsu composed for Final Fantasy games, though Kenji Ito is credited as the game's composer." - refs?
  • "Upon completion of the Story Mode..." - this paragraph is unsourced
  • above are completed Judgesurreal777 (talk) 04:07, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
