Hi J.J.,

welcome to Wikipedia! As a cartoonist, perhaps you have some ideas for a Wikipedia mascot (link to the current discussion on Meta-Wikipedia)? --Eloquence 02:38 Apr 11, 2003 (UTC)

Hi J.J.,

Congrats on getting permission to use the official portrait of Mary McAleese. I sought permission from her some time ago and she was her usual stroppy self. The civil servants in her office met in conclave and decided that they could not provide any copyright stuff to wikipedia because they could not control its use, and it might be seen as endorsement of wikipedia. It was a pity because they have a hell of a lot of useful images. I had to crop a very old photograph to get images (tiny ones) of a couple of the presidents. (Luckily four holders of the office, one then in office and his three successors, all appeared in the same shot of an Irish cabinet with the then President.) STÓD/ÉÍRE 03:17 Apr 11, 2003 (UTC)

Hi again JJ, One thing about the pictures. Try to use a different set of commands rather than tables when placing in pictures. For some reason (as I only discovered recently) different browsers view certain commands differently; Internet Explorer on Macs, for example is a disaster case when it comes to pictures on wiki pages. One browser shows a picture embedded in text (where you put it). A different browser places it dead centre of the page, with vast amounts of white space around it, others add lines. It seems to be just a couple of browsers but it led to a row between Mav and myself over a page, with each lashing the other for 'screwing up' a page, until we discovered our different browsers were showing us different pages. When I placed the picture where it looked well on my browser, it looked goddamned awful on Mav's. And when he 'fixed' it, it screwed up my page. Brion in the end adapted a command that seems to work in all cases (known so far at least). If you go to the Robert Mugabe page you will find the command there. It seems we need to give a width as well, because that command basically creates a layout that no browser can screw up. Without it, pictures shift on wiki pages depending on the browser. The width command seems to lock the picture and make it unmovable even on explorer on a Mac (which I have now abandoned and gone for Safari, which is 100 times better!). Also using tables sometimes makes text run right up to the side of the image (on some browsers run over the image). Brion's command seems to create a wide space around each image. The only complexity is trial and error in guessing the width (if you have something like iPhoto, copy the picture onto it and it will tell you exactly the width.) STÓD/ÉÍRE 04:08 Apr 11, 2003 (UTC)

Hi JJ, re the head of state page, please don't add borders to pictures, remove them. They have been found to interfere with layout on some browsers. After checking with some professionals, the advice was simply to remove them, as they are unnecessary. That way, no problems occur and the page looks cleaner and more professionally laid out. Because of my and other's experiences with borders, and the problems they cause on some browsers, a group of us have been systematically removing them from pages, and re-laying out pictures with a new set of commands by Brion (the ones on the head of state page in the image you added borders to) which seem to work with all browsers. Other previous sets of commands (such as using tables for images) go haywire on some browsers and muck up pages. Otherwise, good work on the HofS page. STÓD/ÉÍRE 02:55 Apr 13, 2003 (UTC)

Did you get permission for Image:Greenspancar.jpg? Because it's listed on VFD and it will be deleted soon if you don't speak up. -- Tim Starling 04:11 Apr 14, 2003 (UTC)

What about Image:Marymca.jpg and Image:Uk liz2old.jpg? You can't just upload copyright images, JJ. We have a very strict copyright policy here: see Wikipedia:Copyrights. The images have to be public domain. -- Tim Starling 05:00 Apr 14, 2003 (UTC)

No response? Okay, I'm going to remove those images from their articles and put them on VFD. -- Tim Starling 06:01 Apr 14, 2003 (UTC)

It is much easier to use 3 or 4 tildes "~" to add a signature to an entry than to do it manually. 3 tildes gives just your name, 4 tildes gives your name and a timestamp. -- RTC 06:27 Apr 14, 2003 (UTC)

Regarding Pol Pot:

I haven't read the work of a single expert, however, who claimed that Pol Pot was a "pure" or orthodox Marxist. By his own account, by-passing the intermediate stage of socialism means that he's not a "pure" Marxist. I think that the writer, by mistake, meant "communist" or "communalist" rather than "Marxist". I've heard some saying that Pol Pot's regime came close to pure "communism", and there's a good argument for that, but I’ve never heard any expert claiming that Pol Pot’s regime closely adhered to Marxist ideology. It's sometimes easy, however, to confuse terms like e "socialist", "Marxist", "communist", "communitarian", etc.

In short, the selection of the term "Marxist" was probably an error.

Hi JJ, regarding the images of Mary McAleese and Queen Elizabeth, they are copyright so wiki cannot use them. The Queen's image was only allowed to be used by non-commercial organisations connected with the Jubilee, not general non-commercial organisation. If you email the photographic agency and tell them that we want to use the image (but not that we already had it on!) they just may agree to its encyclopædic use by us. I put a note on the deletion page saying I was going to suggest this to you and not to delete it for a few days to give you a chance to get permission.

It is an easy mistake to make, as to what images we can use and what we need permission first. Very old images (pre 1920s) are pretty much OK. Later images may effectively be if the image is widely used and the copyright is never enforced (which can be guessed by the various sources where the image can be found), particularly if the image has (as many have) been cropped and changed over the years, very often resulting in a situation where no-one can even trace the original image, or even work out from what original image the crop of a crop of a crop might have come. But the newer the image, the greater the likelihood that it is not merely copyrighted but the copyright is rigidly enforced. Having a copyright image could get wiki into serious legal troubles. Eventually we all get the hang of the copyright nightmare. STÓD/ÉÍRE 01:00 Apr 15, 2003 (UTC)

Congratulations. You obviously had more luck than I did. I will change the note on the Votes for Deletion page to make it clear that there is no problem. (I won't remove it because if I did people wouldn't know it is OK and so my put it back on the page. It is better to leave it there and then let it be removed some time later when everyone has forgotten about it.) Any luck with the Queen Elizabeth image? I hope they agree to it because it is a nice picture to have. I know images can be a nightmare trying to get correct permission, etc. It is so easily to with the best of motives make a cock-up; I know I have too. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it. ÉÍREman 23:02 Apr 16, 2003 (UTC)

Just to let you know I have now added a note to the Mary McAleese mention on the Votes for Deletion making it clear that everything is now OK. BTW, I don't know if it is your area of interest, but I have noticed a few problems over how we refer to cardinals on wiki, given that few people know what a cardinal's first name actually is. I have made a suggestion for a possible solution on the Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (names and titles) page. Titles can be an absolute nightmare on wikipedia. It took a gang of us months of trial and error to try to get a workable system for royals and people with peerages. Just when you think the problem is solved, up crops cardinals to cause more problems! If it is an areas of interest to you, I'd certainly welcome your imput. Slán ÉÍREman 23:23 Apr 16, 2003 (UTC)

Hi JJ
The point is not there. In the past few days, any edits made to this page trying to Npov this article, have been at best labelled by a "citation required" or at worse erased. I have little problem personnaly with the idea of staying quite in the blur, with "many" or "some", but I expect that this should be true for any editor. And clearly, this is not currently respected. Most of your edits are ok to me, but I expect that anyone has the right to edit this article, me included, and to work to make it npov, not only a nice and fun place for free french bashing. Respect has to be done both ways. When I am required to provide evidence with the idea that most french people wonder why they are under so much more hate from american than german or russian people are, while this is such a widespread point of view in France, I feel I can similarly ask a little backup for some of the claims you just added. I hope you will understand that. User:anthere

Likewise, I would appreciate that you rewrite the passage about the côte d'ivoire, because written as it is, it appears there was as little agreement from the ONU agreeing to the Iraq war, as for the Cote d'ivoire war. I believe this statement is wrong. If that is more confortable with you, please do consider my ignorance on the topic, and add all the relevant links backing up your claim. Otherwise, please do consider enriching the cote d'ivoire article. Thanks.

Hi JJ, I saw your note on the Papal Tiara page. I don't know which browser you are using. Is it netscape? Netscape seems unable to recognise the <small></small> command, meaning that it prints subcaptions at full size. The result is that the captions grows in size and then interfere with text and image boxes. (Having had all sorts of problems with netscape, I have seriously come to hate that browser. Curiously I. Explorer also seems to cause problems with images. If an image doesn't have the width specified, it moves it to a different location, usually dead centre of the page. I have abandoned using both and use safari, which is designed for a mac, and is heaven compared to those other two annoying browsers.) I changed some of the images around; the version you left them in went all over the place on safari (well three or four images!). I repositioned a couple and checked them using Netscape and they seemed fine. Have a quick look and tell me if they are messing around again. The page is very image intense but then given that it is talking about something that needs to be seen (they being almost impossible to describe) I think it needs to be. I have removed a couple of images and made some other changes so it should be OK now. Slán. ÉÍREman 02:16 Apr 24, 2003 (UTC)

What are you planning on doing with all of the Saddam Hussein photos you're uploading? And what is their copyright status? -- Zoe

Please explain the provenance of the Saddam Huseein articles you have loaded. If they are not copyright-free, they cannot be here. -- Zoe

JJ, can you go to the TALK page for the prime minister of the united states article, and explain to the group why you think the article is important? Kingturtle 04:31 May 8, 2003 (UTC)

JJ, when I downloaded Image:Janetreno.jpg and opened it in Photoshop, it tells me that the image is "© Corbis. All Rights Reserved." You say that the image is the official portrait of the DOJ, but it does not match the image on this page: http://www.usdoj.gov/jmd/ls/agbiographies.htm Do you have the permission of Corbis to distribute their copyrighted photographs? -- Minesweeper 04:30 May 10, 2003 (UTC)

I did not realize that, so I changed it. Can you tell me how you found out where it was from? user:J.J.

I'm using Photoshop 6.0. I'm not sure what other image programs can do this, but here's what I did in Photoshop: Open the image, go to the "File" menu, select "File Info", and then select "Copyright & URL" from the drop down box. It also gives credit to "© ADAMS EDDIE/CORBIS SYGMA" and the date is "May 1, 1993". (On an unrelated topic, see my response on Talk:George W. Bush) -- Minesweeper 10:45 May 10, 2003 (UTC)

Thanks for the Georgia flag update. -- Zoe

Concerning Prime Minister of the United States -- I do appreciate your point, "I just assumed that this page would be useful in explaning the nature of a term that has always kind of interested me." But I wonder whether it would be more useful if you removed the material from this page, and incorporated it into the pages for Prime Minsiter and President, perhaps creating sections, "comparing X to other forms of executive power?" Among other things, I think more people would find and read it -- and precisely in the articles where this kind of elucidation is needed. Slrubenstein

No problem, JJ. I was glad to do it. You are a serious contibutor who has done competent, useful and valuable work. Wikipedia is better because of your contributions. There are some messers on wikipedia who see it as a sort of a game. I am always glad to come to the defence of someone who takes wiki seriously and whose contributions clearly show that. lol FearÉÍREANN 03:39 16 May 2003 (UTC) (PS: In honour of the new server, I have varied my nick again. Maybe I should sign myself 'the user formerly known as ÉIREman!) :-)

You're description of image "Nguyen.jpg" is merely "Nguyen getting shot"--Nguyen is a very common name, like "Smith" (in fact there are more Nguyen's in Northern California than Smith's), so I have no idea who this is talking about. Can you please give the image a more complete name and description? LDC

Also, the description page of your image of Mario (Nintendo character) doesn't mention its source. It's quite obviously copyrighted, but it still might be usable under "fair use" if we accurately identify and credit the source. Otherwise, it will have to be removed. Same with the Simpsons image--if we know exactly where it came from, we might still be able to use it, but we have to be diligent about it. LDC

Hi JJ, just wondering, are old banknotes free of copyright or does the copyright rest with the central bank that produced them? I'm curious because I have some old banknotes and if it is OK to use them I would love to. You may know more than I do about the c/r situation. FearÉIREANN 21:49 7 Jun 2003 (UTC)

I emailed the BoE some time ago about using banknotes on here and they said no. The British banknotes have carried a copyright notice for about 10 years. Mintguy

And I think American ones are the same. So if you're gonna use those countries, stick with old ones. But realistically, enforcing copyrites on imgaes of banknotes is extremely unlikely to ever happen, unless you are stealing images from a government website or something.

BTW, if you use a full banknote image it is also customary to brand it with a "sample" watermark to avoid any possible further controversy. user:J.J.

J.J.;

The stubs you added for East and West Florida call them Spanish Colonies. I created the referring links, intending to come back and describe them as English Colonies. I want to ask your intent before updating them. I've got a comment and two questions. Comment - I agree that any complete West Florida article needs a description of the short period of the West Florida republic. The Questions are:

The History of Florida article does a limited but OK descrition of the Spanish Colony. Since England created the East/West split, do you have a problem if I describe them as British Colonies (with reference to Hist of Fla article)?
I don't understand the West Florida comment about Louisiana. Is it OK if we treat the LA/FL border issue as resolved by LA territory and occupation, then note the the rest of West Forida is now Florida (panhandle), Alabama and Misssissippi gulf coasts?
Lou I 06:17 30 Jun 2003 (UTC)

JJ. Don't apologize for not knowing U.S. History. When I wrote the article on Simon Fraser, in the draft version I had your S.F.U. as being named after him. Fact checking showed me the other Simin Fraser. I don't know much about Canadian history, so we're even. P.S. Why not write an article on Simon Fraser (explorer), then we can add a dismbig page ;-).

Expanding the Florida Articles is on my priority 3 list, sso it will be some time bofore I get to them. Thanks for the note ..Lou I 20:59 1 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Sysop status granted[edit]

Congratulations, you have just been made a sysop! You have volunteered for boring housekeeping activities which normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops basically can't do anything: They cannot delete pages arbitarily (only obvious junk like "jklasdfl,öasdf JOSH IS GAY"), they cannot protect pages in an edit war they are involved in, they cannot ban signed in users. What they can do is delete junk as it appears, ban anonymous vandals, remove pages that have been listed on Votes for deletion for more than a week, protect pages when asked to by other members, and help keep the few protected pages there are, among them the precious Main Page, up to date.

Note that almost everything you can do can be undone, so don't be too worried about making mistakes. You will find more information at Wikipedia:Administrators, please take a look before experimenting with your new powers. Drop me a message if there are any questions or if you want to stop being a sysop (could it be?). Have fun!—Eloquence 02:44, Aug 19, 2003 (UTC)

Hi J.J., I've taken the liberty to move your newly created article on Muscial chairs to the already existing (and I should say properly capitalised) Musical Chairs. I just wanted to let you know. All the best, --KF 14:29, 20 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Nice Image:Jamaciajudge.jpg picture, though I wonder if you have permission from the person who is appearing in the picture. If he is a real judge you can state who he is and maybe create at least a stub article on him; he's probably significant as there can't be that many judges in Jamaica (I am always worrying about fair use defences). If he is just a private person he may have privacy rights issues about using his image without consent; we should at least let subsequent licensees know that might be a problem. I appreciate your decision to move Queen of Canada to Canadian monarchy. However, having done so, would you be so kind as to fix the links to that page? - Montréalais

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking user:J.J.

When someone decides to move a page, it's the custom for them to go through the links to the old page and change them to point to the new page. In this case, one would change all instances of foo to foo. I got you started by doing the provinces and territories. - Montréalais 17:02, 3 Sep 2003 (UTC)

I've asked you to do this when I supported you at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship, but I came across some images of yours since you received adminships -- and they are still all have only a few-word description that is completely sourceless (e.g. Image:Jamaciajudge.jpg, Image:Kirkpatrick.jpg,.....). From the Roman Senate: "Each senator represented a different area of Rome, and were directly elected by that area's native people. The terms of the senators greatly varied. Some, on the advice of government leaders, could be appointed to life, or extremely long terms, while others had to yearly run for re-election."

Could you tell me the source of this information, as I was unaware of any such mode of selection of Roman senators? Djnjwd 23:25, 16 Sep 2003 (UTC)

I copied much of this from an old report I wrote for school, years ago. I can no longer remember where I got the info from. Delete it if it seems wrong. user:J.J.

Hello. When you wrote "everyone sector of society" did you intend to write "every sector of society" or "every one sector of society", or has the meaning of the word "everyone" among young people changed in a way that we who are over 30 don't know about? (E.g., I've seen "anyway" written where "any way" seemed to be intended. I grew up very familiar with the word "anyway", but it meant something quite different from "any way". Not so among some 20-year-olds, I'm finding.) Michael Hardy 23:47, 24 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Looking to see if you have sources for the following:

I'm especially interested in Image:Rae.jpg where it appears that you removed a signature from the image.

Are these photographs not copyrighted? Timc 13:46, 12 Nov 2003 (UTC)

They're government photos, which are public domain and can be used for purposes like this. The Rae one was autographed, but I removed it. user:J.J.
I thought that government photos like these were under Crown copyright, held by the Queen's Printer. [1] Are these photographs from elsewhere? If you could indicate where they came from, that would be great. Timc 17:56, 17 Nov 2003 (UTC)

JJ, it's really important to tell us the origin of the photos you use. When I clicked on the Statue of Liberty pic in New York, New York I got no information at all. It's not sufficient to merely say "don't worry , they are all copyright" on your personal page, you need to give the URL of the site where they came from so that others can decide if they agree. Have a look at Galaxy and Aircraft carrier to get the idea of how I do it.

Hey - if you want something listed on the Main Page, then please make sure you follow the guidelines for that at Wikipedia:Selected Articles on the Main Page. The most important guidelines are to make sure the article you are listing has been updated to reflect why it is being listed, and for that item to be linked from its category. Bush picture[edit]

J.J.--good addition of a picture, but can we get rid of the banner somehow? The picture without banner would look fine, I think, but with the banner it looks a little too much like a pro-Bush picture/Bush propaganda. It's actually a banner that's ON the table where Bush is. It kinda looks odd, I realize. I can crop it out.

Salutations[edit]

Why are you adding salutations like "Dr." and "The Honorable" into articles? In the very least they shouldnt be part of the bolding since they're not part of a person's official name. --Jiang 07:30, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)

This should really be discussed first. A few weeks ago, User:Daniel Quinlan went around removing "The Right Honourable" from every Prime Minister article. Try the Village Pump. Screaming Lord Sutch[edit]

You modified this page to change "he contested over forty elections" to "he ran for office in forty elections, contesting the result in each one". I'm curious to know whether you have information that wasn't previously in the article, or whether you merely misunderstood the meaning of "contested" in this case. Marnanel 03:44, Apr 13, 2004 (UTC)

I read in the Gueiness Book that he contested every election he ever ran in. Therefore, if he contested over 40, he must have ran in over 40. user:J.J.
What was the wording in the Guinness book? To contest an election *means* to run in it, at least in the UK-- it's equivalent to something like "participate". It doesn't imply the act of calling the result into question-- you would have to say "contested the result of the election". Marnanel 23:51, Apr 13, 2004 (UTC)

How about a pirate?[edit]

An image Image:Villianc.PNG, originally uploaded by you, being a cartoon of a Villian appears to have been modified by User:Ihcoyc and re-uploaded as a PNG image. After that a block was added by User:Anthony DiPierro. What is the correct copyright status of this image? It looks like a direct copy (or re-rendering) of an original Jay Ward cartoon. Can you really claim it as yours?

I should add some explanation here. I am NOT accusing you of a breach of copyright. It is just that your image has been nominayed at WP:FPC and we would not want to feature an image where there was any question over the copyright status. I really hope this image is yours, as I think it is great and would love to see it included on WP:FP. Thank, Gaz 14:56, 3 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Question withdrawn - Sorry mate! I had somehow missed your link to your Filibusters website. Once that was politely pushed into my ignorant face I see that this is very much your own work. comments on Chile?[edit]

I noted a comment you made on an article about list of US interventions. That article is now at List of U.S. foreign interventions since 1945. A usen, Nimc, is very invested in the article. I popped in an HTML reference about Chile which communicated a viewpoint different from the "The US is am imperia bully" perspective. Do you have any sense of what mainstream thought is on Chile and the US? My sense was that the article was POV, but thougt it would be interesting to learn some of the history of these times. My searches around the web come across mostly rants and I don't have the background in history to find balanced articles.

Thanks. Oh, and watch out for the Minor Edit Police! Steve Kd4ttc 15:03, 28 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for dropping in on the talk. The world is an interesting place with the variety of perspectives that there are. Kd4ttc 22:03, 29 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

The article List of U.S. foreign interventions since 1945 is getting worse. Alternative viewpoints are being edited out under the guise of keeping the list just a list. All your comments about the POV nature of the article are correct, and the list seems to invite edits that are striving to show that all interventions by the US since 1945 are antidemocratic world controlling plans of the Imperial US. Any thoughts on getting the mess deleted? - Steve, Kd4ttc 15:56, 1 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Featured article[edit]

Someone read Head of State, really liked it and wants it to become a featured article. Someone else objected because the images on that page don't have complete source information. Now, images of heads of state have surely got to come with fairly relaxed restrictions about copyright (they are photographed millions of times a year!) so I would like to resolve this little objections if I can. Would you be able therefore to add any more details about the origin of the images you uploaded on that page? Alternatively, could you reply at Wikipedia:Featured articles candidates? THanks ever so much for your help! Pcb21| Pete 16:21, 30 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Mad Scientist Cartoon[edit]

Hi, Mad scientist is currently a featured article candidate, so we're doing some brushing up. Could you give a specific licence (GFDL?) for your illustration? Thanks (and thanks for the picture!). Markalexander100 04:07, 4 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Uncle Sam[edit]

What is the copyright status of Image:Usgiant.jpg? I found it on a web site with a description and updated the page accordingly, but I don't know if we have permission to use it, if its GFDL, or otherwise legit for Wikipedia use. (Please see Wikipedia:Image_copyright_tags.) Thanks! -- ke4roh 15:44, Jul 5, 2004 (UTC)

Saddam[edit]

I like your changes to the article. The only problem is the title-- Saddam Hussein (as opposed to 2003 Iraq War). Your additions have more to do with the United States than Saddam Hussein. (Also, the rationale for the invasion was already addressed, albeit more succinctly.) Please keep in mind that this is a biographical entry. 172 02:20, 9 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Arcade machine[edit]

Hi, J.J.. I noticed you uploaded the image Arcademachine.jpg. I want to thank you for the contribution. Slot machine picture[edit]

Hi, J.J. I was just wondering if you could readd the slot machine that you uploaded to Slot machine a while back if you still have it, as it seems to have been deleted somehow. The current picture at the article is a poor representation of slot machines, in my opinion. Of course, only upload the image if you have proper permissions/licensing and all that. Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. Redirect you created at "Kissinger Associates, Inc."[edit]

Hi, you created a redirect from Kissinger Associates, Inc. to Kissinger Associates, but there is currently no article at Kissinger Associates. (As far as I can tell, there was never an article at that name.) Wikipedia policy is to get rid of redirects to non-existent pages, and someone listed Kissinger Associates, Inc. on WP:RfD If you want the redirect to stay, you will need to create something at Kissinger Associates (even a stub will do), or else the redirect will go away. If you do create the target, you don't have to do anything on WP:RfD (we'll eventually notice the target is there), but if you do, just delete the entry for Kissinger Associates, Inc.. Thanks! Noel (talk) 20:54, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)

PS: I don't usually check other User_talk: pages (so that I don't have to monitor a whole long list of User_Talk: pages - one for each person with whom I am having a "conversation"), so please leave any messages for me on my talk page (above); if you leave a message for me here I probably will not see it. I know not everyone uses this style (they would rather keep all the text of a thread in one place), but I simply can't monitor all the User_talk: pages I leave messages on. Thanks! I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? You indicate it is "probably" public domain, but if it was created more recently than 1923, it may not, in fact, be so.

You can use gfdl if you wish to release your own work under the GNU Free Documentation License, PD-self if you wish to release your own work to the public domain, fairuse if you claim fair use of someone else's work, and so on. Click here for a list of the various tags.

Canada Culture section[edit]

The Canada article is already excessively long (don't forget non-Canadians want to read this too, and too much detail becomes tedious). The main article is Culture of Canada and you should have included most of your comments there. May I suggest that you go back and reduce this and leave out peripheral things like "undefended border", "maple leaf" etc - all interesting, but really quite peripheral to the essence of Canadian culture. I think too you make a mistake in not specifying "English Canadian" culture, however it is not worth fighting over. Just go back and transfer material to the main article. We can't keep repeating everything in every article. --BrentS 16:41, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)
