The article currently contains a block of unformatted text. It was a cut and paste taken from the web at Colonial Hall. I've provided the link rather than repeat the text. Colonial Hall in turn rekeyed (with some spelling updates) the entry from Goodrich's Lives of the Signers to the Declaration of Independence from 1856.
I am about to delete the block. In general, I've found Goodrich to have a lot of glowing descriptions of personality, but its not always accurate. Orphaned references in Thomas Heyward, Jr.[edit]
I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Thomas Heyward, Jr.'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Taken Prisoner[edit]
This article makes no mention of the fact that he was taken prisoner by the British and taken to St. Augustine Florida and kept there as a prisoner of war. It also makes no mention that his return to South Caroline was due to being rescued by a Florida merchant and smuggled aboard that merchant's ship and that is how he returned to S.C. The article only says that he left S.C and then returned. Category:American slave owners[edit]
No mention of slave-owning. I feel that this category should be restricted to people whose slave-owning history was notable in itself. Valetude (talk) 14:03, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
- The Heyward family was at one time the largest slaveholder in the United States. I think that qualifies as notable. I added a source. Thanks, User:Valetude! Jacona (talk) 14:16, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
