I have made some year layout proposals which would affect this page: the year in topic paragraph would be replaced with a see also box.

Text removed[edit]

I removed the 1 January entry that Pres-elect Lincoln declared slavery unconstitutional in the Confederate states. The Confederacy didn't exist yet so this could not have happened.
