Axis weapons?[edit]

Organisation[edit]

The way I see it, this list could be further organized beyond the current types of weapons because of the nature of the pieces listed. I see five main groups of the way weapons were procured:

  • The service weapons from the German Reich before the Anschluss
  • Weapons from countries annexed or partly annexed to the German Reich: Austria, Czechoslovakia, Poland and Yugoslavia, so those with the codes (j), (ö), (t) and (p)
  • Weapons from Germany's allies: Italy and Hungary, those with the codes (i) and (u).
  • Weapons produced for or taken by Germany in occupied countries: Belgium, Denmark, France, Greece, the Netherlands and Norway.
  • Captured weapons, which overlaps with above category and cateory 2 but also includes the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom and the United States

I don't know if anything could or should be done with this. I just put the idea forth for consideration.

I also think it might be a good idea to include the cartridges used by these weapons next to each.

Lastly, Austria-Hungary and Germany captured "large numbers" of Arisaka Type 30 and Type 38 rifles from Russia during the First World War according to this site on Hungarian weapons: http://www.hungariae.com/Arisaka.htm Does anyone know if these were used by Germany in the Second World War? From what I understand this is supposed to be a list of German weaponry made and used during WWII. I don't understand why this list includes models made by other countries and captured guns (unless of course the German's modified and manufactured their own). FG 42=MG? MP44=SMG?[edit]

I deleted FG 42 from the Machine gun section, because it is no machine gun. Also, I deleted MP44 from the SMG section, because we all know it's a rifle. Disagree? Feel free to contribute your opinion. Rocco752 (talk) 08:15, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. First, I think the FG-42 is a machine gun. As a rifle, it has limited range and accuracy. Its real value is in its ability to fire surprisingly controllably in full-auto while still being light and compact. Therefore, it deserves to be treated as an LMG, not a rifle.
Secondly, I feel that the assault rifles should get their own section. There are enough of them on this page to need at least a subcategory. They also fire a different cartridge than the other rifles.Blamazon (talk) 19:14, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

German Weapons Only[edit]

I think having "Captured Weapons" as a section with the title of the article List of World War II firearms of Germany is absurd. The listing according to the title should be of weapons made for or adopted by part of the German Military or Auxiliary forces. Implying that the M3 submachine gun was a Firearm of Germany is missing the point of the listing. Many weapons listed outside the captured section are also misrepresented. Many firearms captured from countries that the Germans conquered were put into service on a wide scale. And the foreign-made weapon designations that the Nazis used should be seen somewhere on Wikipedia, and this would be the best place. 24.214.230.66 (talk) 03:31, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I kind of like the idea of a captured weapons page. After all, Germany did more weapon repurposing than any other country. They used allied vehicles, guns, and supplies. But more importantly, they rebored captured guns(when they could) for german calibers and painted vehicles in there own colors(again, when they could, sometimes they just used german flags). No other country did these things. So I think it would be cool to have a captured weapons page, but only for weapons that have been rebored for german calibers. The page must also mention that the weapon is in a different caliber. I am sure not everyone will agree on this, but it at least gives us a means of distinguishing which weapons deserve a spot in the captured weapons section.Blamazon (talk) 05:16, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sturm/Kampf[edit]

Wehrmacht AND Luftwaffe?[edit]

In multiple entries, Wehrmacht is listed as a Primary User as well as Luftwaffe or Panzerwaffe. This is the English equivalent of saying a gun was issued to "the Armed Forces, Air Force, and tank battalions," as if airmen and tankers aren't part of the Armed Forces.

Even the intro says "firearms used by the Wehrmacht, Luftwaffe, Waffen-SS, Deutsches Heer, the Volkssturm". (Oddly, they listed the other two branches of the Wehrmacht but left out the Kriegsmarine. Rude.)

It leads me to believe one of two things:

a) an editor does not understand the word Wehrmacht (after all, believing it means Army is a common mistake in English, yet they list the Heer as well, which heightens the confusion)

b) an editor wanted to specifically single out the Luftwaffe and Panzerwaffe from the rest of the Wehrmacht, which makes no sense at all, unless there's some logistical reason why. If so, a footnote for why they are singled out would be helpful to avoid confusion.
